NEW DEPUTY LEADER OF LABOUR PARTY
Harriet Harman has beaten Johnson - good or bad. Did the CWU help her by deselecting him.

Harriet Harman, the justice minister, has been elected deputy leader of the Labour Party.
In a surprise appointment she beat Cabinet members Alan Johnson, Hilary Benn, Hazel Blears and Peter Hain as well as left-wing backbencher Jon Cruddas.

Although she will be Gordon Brown's deputy when the Chancellor is announced as party leader, Miss Harman is not guaranteed to become Deputy Prime Minister.
She will have to wait until Mr Brown announces his new Cabinet on Thursday before finding out whether she will hold both posts vacated by John Prescott.
It is thought that the role of Deputy Prime Minister may go to Jack Straw, the Commons Leader, who has run Mr Brown's "unopposed" campaign for the party leadership.
Miss Harman was elected at a special party conference in Manchester following a complex series of voting among Labour Party members.
Ballots for the deputy leadership closed on Friday with Mr Johnson and Mr Benn as frontrunners.

From elsewhere.Or Harriet Harman's proposal to give unions the automatic right to organise in firms, rather than waiting until they have the support of more than half the staff in a ballot? Again, a perfectly good idea (in my opinion) and something that would help underpaid shopworkers. But will Gordon, wooing the city and business, have that? Will he heck.

Listening to her speech she might be good for Labour she may bring Socialism back into Labour or is it just spin to get the grass root on her side.

In his first act as Labour leader, Gordon Brown has appointed Harriet Harman as party chairman.

The incoming prime minister also announced that he was appointing close ally Douglas Alexander as general election co-ordinator.
He said the move would ensure that "we are ready not just to fight but to win a general election".
Brown's pledges came shortly after it was announced that Harman had been elected as the new Labour deputy leader.
Speaking to Labour supporters in Manchester, Brown said the new party chairman was "not appointed by the leader but elected by you the party".
He also pledged that there would be policy forums in every constituency in a bid to consult party members more.
And there would be a 'one member, one vote' ballot to make the final decision on the party's programme for the next election.
