What troubles me is that some guy at the top (a planner) will come up with a so called "lightbulb moment" thinking that a plan will work when in true hindsight this has to be agreed by the uso and the union. Everything changes and yes we all have to move with the times, i just wish RM would have a set plan, stick with it, and stop changing the rules every year or so.
Ever since they introduced later starting times, i have sometimes had a SD and never got to the door till after 1pm.I have raised this issue with my DOM but he just ignores the fact it will get delivered so it doesn't really matter what time of the day you get there. Well sorry DOM but the customer pays for a service and expects to get that service...the customer is basically getting s**t on, and theres nothing we can do about it!
You raise two valid points - a coherent agreed plan, taken to its planned term - instead of the knee jerk hither and yon approach.
The second is the SD USO - I think you'll find your manager is soon going to change his mind about when SDs are delivered, before he is no longer the manager.

But Royal Mail will get away with late Special Deliveries more times than not because it's the sender who can claim the refund when it's delivered late but it's the addressee that knows it's late because they receive it.

These days the PDAs will give an accurate time to the sender

Spot on dis - it's not the customer the manager will be worried about - it is the failure rate spotted by his manager thats going to worry him.
