Do Accidents On Duty now get counted as absences?

Conference agrees that the application of the attendance procedure is causing grave concern to our members. Managers are often including Accidents on Duty and Disability absences when issuing warnings. In addition to this mitigation is being ignored. Managers are using intimidation tactics to frighten our members to return to work prematurely when off sick. This cannot be allowed to continue.

The PEC is therefore instructed to challenge Royal Mail on their current unagreed Attendance Procedure with the aim of achieving a fair and non intimidatory process in line with the ACAS guide lines.

In the meantime the PEC are instructed to sanction, where justified, any ballot request which branches submit in relation to the application of the attendance procedure.

The Postal Executive is instructed accordingly.

Very strange, the EHS are not going to be able to tell him whether you had an accident or not, that should have been obtained from his investigation (which I'm guessing he has not done.) They may comment on the amount of time of due to injuries (justifiable or not), or if there is a need for you to arrange a consultation to help with any of your injuries/rehab etc.

jhonnyp not disputing the fact but normally in these abnormal times the gaffa's (managers) do as they are told from above too issue or not too issue for the answer is invariably ISSUE IT NOW!. I know London is strong in the union and backing would be forthcoming but for the many up and down this land in the CWU it is not as i have found out but all be aware of what the real intention of royalmail is TOO CUT AS MANY FULL TIME STAFF AS THEY CAN!.

Ive got a stage 1 Saturday funnily enough and the absence that has triggered it was an AOD (I twisted my knee whilst out on my walk and was off for 7 days with Bursists) i will let you know what happens.

My Dom spoke to me today regarding my stage 1 interview. His decision was not to issue me with a stage 1 warning as according to the EHS i must have twisted my knee while on delivery which resulted in the Bursitis as diagnosed by the doctor at my local hospital.In the accident investigation there was no main root cause in the terms of any hazards detected.He has considered it as an incident and has given me the benefit of the doubt and emphasied that if my sick record deteriorates in the near future this last sick absence might be included towards the attendance procedure.

So what do you think of that then boys and girls?

Good that he did not issue but it was an accident on duty and why should you have this hanging over you if the manager knocked you down in his own car while he was on the phone it would now be classed as an incident and not an accident!.
