Royal mail loses sign appeal

ROYAL Mail has lost an appeal to have an illuminated poster display within its sorting yard on Fisherton Street because it would be distracting to drivers.

The company put forward their planning application for the 6.3m by 3.3m sign in December last year and lodged an appeal in March after it was refused permission.

Planning inspector Michael Hillyer decided lots of new hoardings could unacceptably alter appearances in Fisherton Street but would not be harmful to the visual amenity of the surrounding area.

However, he noted that Fisherton Street was a busy two-way street with roundabout traffic and the turnings at the station.

“Both drivers and pedestrians need high levels of concentration on the highway in this area,” he said.

“The large new poster, designed to attract attention and closely in alignment with the road views of drivers travelling south, would be a potentially dangerous diversion to concentration and a threat to highway safety.”

He said the variable messaging movement of the sign and its illumination at night would worsen the situation.

When Lord Mandelscum presses ahead with his very popular scheme to 'part privatise' the Royal Mail we will see an end to this nonsense one hopes. Any potential buyer I,m sure will be allowed to erect large illuminating signs wherever and when ever they please. :left: :left: :left:

I can't see why they need an illuminated sign, it's not like they don't get enough advertising (thousands of vans all with 'Image on them') :chuckle :chuckle

Did this ad appear in the Scotsman newspaper?
"Today’s workplace has become heartless and soulless. Employees are seen as units of labour, automatons, functionaries, objects for achieving designated tasks, and as costs to be minimised."
