Pay rate for full time OPG

Post by heathrow86 »

I am currently working for the Logistics part of the business, but due to family problems I may have to voluntary transfer indoors. So can anyone tell me what an indoor postman earns please. I realise I will be taking a drop in wages but family comes first.

Hi there,

I work full-time in Edinburgh Mail Centre (night shift) and I clear £330 per week. Thats after I pay for my additional annual leave. But I do recieve £72 shift allowance. Early shift and back shift staffs allowance is less.

Outer London is £412.26 including London weighting.
£4,313 for inner london and £3,154 for outer london.

So basic pay for the whole of the UK,at least after a year would be around £350 a week.Based on a 40hr contract

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I have, or did. For a young person working at RM its quite boring in my opinion best to get out of the company, nothing tecnical about working for RM. A good stable job for some though.

might not be a technical job as few jobs but it far better than standard office job. I've worked as a postie and now in mail centre and with both you have to keep ya wits about you to ensure your doing job well as well as making sure you don't have accident or cause one for someone else.

I know lad who works with us and he did it last christmas and back again, he joined at earliest age he could. The group that started with me range from teens to 50's. I find postal or what I've seen of mailsortin is ideal for any age person as long as ya can read right and actual want to do job well. Its a hard working job for hard working people in my eyes.

Don't always agree with management and way RM is going but I proud to work for them as I remember what RM used to stand for and try and do best to get the public to see how much we have to deal with just to get their post there in compliance with all the changes and management crap we have to deal with.

In one way this is true, which makes it easy for management to import casuals to replace proper postmen. And of course the job is classed as 'unskilled', an unhelpful term.

Any decent postman with several years under his belt will acknowledge there are still things to learn. And it helps to keep the job interesting when most of it is routine.

The same is true of other jobs in or below our pay range -- think shelf-stacker, dustman, receptionist, hospital porter etc.

It is a state of mind. The public service ethic, not quite dead yet in spite of everything, also helps. Keep the faith.

I just hope none of these RM managers lose their Leighton manual of "things you need to say, again and again" Its like watching an army of clones ,the same tired old phrases and never an original thought. Crude ,hamfisted and shoddily executed propaganda ,still they must think it works :hmmmm
Maybe time for a management buzzword bingo spotting thread, not very challenging though :chuckle

My comments were just a "nibble" not a bite! But to be honest ANYBODY could do the job as long as your reasonably fit and healthy. It is a steady job, if you want the same repetitive tasks everyday. And the money is not to be laughed at.

The new Chairman has been very quiet for some reason?
