Taken from this evenings Dundee Evening Telegraph:-

100,000 Mail Backlog Claim.

"A Dundee postie has claimed there is a backlog of over 100,000 mail items at a city sorting office because of major problems linked to a change in working practices (writes Laura Thomas).

The Royal Mail worker, who asked not to be named publicly, said the situation was a "health and safety nightmare" as Dundee West Delivery Office in the cities Dryburgh Industrial Estate, is crammed with unsent letters and parcels.
But, earlier this afternoon, Royal Mail rejected the postie's claims saying mail backlogs were minimal and under control.
The postman contacted the tele to say, "areas of the office, that are supposed to remain clear, are blocked with packages we can't get round to delivering. Management in Edinburgh have been asked to come and look at the state of the place, but they've refused.
The postman went on to say changes to working practices meant some deliveries were near impossible to complete.
He said, "the routes have been worked out by a computer that has put unrealistic demands on us".
"Some of the mail at the office dates back to May 3rd, but the emphasis is on us to shift letters over parcels, which customers pay more money for, and they are clogging up the office. The situation is near breaking point. To say there is a "slight backlog" is a joke".
He added, "we are one of the worst cases in the city, as our office was the first to have these useless changes implemented. I'm sure this is going to end up a problem for other Royal Mail workplaces in Dundee aswell".
The new system is based on making a set number of deliveries per hour and has seen posties spend less time in the sorting office and more time making longer deliveries, a Royal Mail spokesperson said.
Workers at Dundee West have been refusing to work overtime in protest at the unpopular changes, which appears to be exacerbating the problem.
The spokesperson said, " There are no major mail backlogs in Dundee as a result of the industrial action. Royal Mail has robust contingency plans in place to minimise disruption and to ensure the best possible service is provided to our customers."

No major problems! You need a double chicane turn to get to the stairs to get to the canteen! :funneh
Less time in the office?! I spend more time in there than on the street! :funneh

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Please give a big hand to the laddies and lassies at Forfar DO for helping to sort the backlog of mailsort at Dundee West, which is working to rule and now creaking under the weight of undelivered yorks of mailsort and packets and parcels. You are a credit to Royal Mail and a disgrace to the union, if you are in it, which I hope you are not. Also known for working through strikes.

if you dont come from the dundee area, its perhaps difficult to understand. dundee is traditionaly a very staunch strong unon city.places in angus and perthshire are the opposite. it doesnt matter what the royal mail does, they will go along with them. they have no concept of the principle of trade unionism or unity. even during the war their fathers and gradfathers seldom fought, most were excused to keep working on the farms. so this generation are like their forefathers. they let others do their fighting for them, and they just sit back and enjoy the fruits of our labour. its not nice , in fact its pathetic. its been like this for years. its just 15 miles down the road from here, but it could be another planet

They will learn eventually!
