phase3 help and quick

Post by ldsposti »

hi guys just found out this morning that we are starting summer lapsing on monday none of the staff have no idea what is happening , i spoke to the rep this morning the answer was its starts on monday you have no option, surely the members have a say in what happens why do reps make agreememts without the go-ahead from the members, the advice we need is is there anything we can do a few have suggested walking out, getting rid of the rep, i'm lucky i'm on leave next week but in the morning i will be telling the manager when i return i will not be taking part of any summer laping till we have an office agreement, please someone give us some advice.

The 'Summer Lapsing' is part of the P&M Agreement and as such you don't need an agreement BUT you only have to work to your contracted time so if your duty takes you to your time to deliver then you can't do any lapsing.

You just need to stick to the golden rules and you probably will not have time to do the lapsing most days. Its upto you what you do, as nobody is sticking together do what is best for you. Oh a good trick is if a manager makes unreasonable requests, ask them to put it in writing for you.

One thing that I would like to add is that RM have brought in Summer lapsing so that more staff can get time off during the summer. So for each duty they lapse should allow one extra member of staff to have that week off. Please make sure that someone from your office takes that holiday and it will descend into chaos. Please also remember that some offices who took an extra bit during last years summer lapsing continue to take it even now. The only way to avoid it is to do the job properly and for staff to take those extra holiday spaces that become available. Good luck mate

Can someone answer this,
We've just started to prep a couple or p/t deliveries, two groups of 4 prepping 2 walks.
Now I for a fact that by doing this and prepping my own walk and delivering it'll take me over my time (with meal relief taken).
When I mentioned this to the DIM,he just quotes Flexability 1/2hr a day , you can't book it!
I thought they had to give you a days notice if your going to work past your time .
I don't want the overtime, but am being told I can't cut off either!
Whats the official line on this feckin flexability ?

This 2 groups of 4 prepping 2 extra walks can only happen if there is a genuine opportunity to absorb the work within your duty hrs. Get a copy of the Pay and modernisation agreement and stuff it under this thick DOM`s nose. If it is taking you longer than your duty hrs dont do it, take it down the IR framework.

Pay and modernisation take it down the IR framework whats that all about just prep your frame properly in the time allowed and go out and deliver if you want to do other peoples work unpaid then thats your look out but dont moan about it. if you dont then dont because if your own prep lasts all the time you are in then what can they do, because it just eats into your delivery and you cut off and they will soon get fedup of that.
Unfortunatly Randompostman, we agreed to this pay and modernisation agreement in exchange for a miserly sum of money, now we have to work within its guidelines, you should take time out to read it properly. Too many people blaming the cwu reps for this flexibility when in actual fact it was voted for by a majority. I bet not many reps voted to accept it.

I have red it and the crux of it is if normal time allows, i am not having a go at reps or even members that voted for it or not but we should all make the best of it because its here to stay what i am saying is if you have time then do it if not then dont if lapsing eats into your delivery then cut off dont extend unless you want the overtime but why moan about it the choice is upto the postman if they want it or not. i see nothing wrong with working my hours i have in every other job i have had and my finish time is the finish time so will prep a few households if i manage to get back to the office early but i dont work for nothing and i dont cut corners or break laws to help out royalmail to cut more jobs either seems some people look at this as a complicated thing when its not its easy if they wont pay then dont doit if the threaten then dont doit because every other company asks if you would mind doing a bit extra so why do royalmail think its ok to force people to doit for nothing or just force them to doit even with pay. If i go over then i am doing them a favour by finishing not them allowing me to work over its just a mindset thing and most people here on this site dont seem to get it maybe because they have thought like that for years working for royalmail and thats the oddest thing of all not that a shitty employer has found a new way to make people pay them for the honour of working for them.

if not sorry.

:Applause :Applause good rant and you are right . I am afraid that a lot of staff will just moan but come in earlier and run faster. As they cant understand that job and knock is gone. We work our time and do the job properly and as you say summer lapsing will hardly happen. But it has to be remebered that flexibility is a two way thing but i think managers only see it as one sided

As has been previously stated ...

Do your job properly and safely, meaning - no early starts, no corner-cutting, no running whilst out on delivery, return to the DO at the end of your day (whether it be an 8-hour day or long and shorts). Thereby you will have no time to take any of the lapsed duty out as you will be over your time, and you are not obliged to work overtime. If the DOM insist you take out the lapsed part first, then remind the DOM that you will cut off the equivalent time at the end of your duty.

It can get messy and tense, but stick with it, otherwise you will end up like happened in our DO and you lapse 2 duties, permanently! And I fully expect our DOM to expect us to lose at least another duty this summer, making 3.

That, as far as i am concerned is a NO, NO! But we shall see if the DO stick together and do the job properly and safely. It is never too late to take on the advice that the CWU has been giving over the past months.

Sorry you see it as a rant because its not meant to be it just seems common sence to me we get paid and we do royalmail pay and they want us to work seems fair to me so far but if my guvnor said do somthing for me for nothing i would say f off and any twat could wave any bit of paper infront of my nose they want but if i dont have time then its not getting done and i am not going to rush around to try to doit i do my job properly earn my money and go home and let the few dicks creep all they want so no matter how some managers see it is no worry of mine if i dont have time i dont do it if i do then i would but i never have time because i do my job properly so its no problem to me infact they some times give me help and i dont care about that either they just hope i am not going to to cutoff, if i dont think i will have to go over to much so they play ball with me as it should be. why some people get their knickers in a twist about this type of thing is beyond me just do what you can in the time you have and say sod you for the rest.

I thought (i could be wrong) that in the CWU National posting we had the other week about what RM aren't doing I.E co-operating with any thing, it said that we are not to get invovled with any revision OR SAVINGS activities, doesn't that include summer lapsing??

We are supposed to start Monday but most of us have told him to see and speak to our union rep!!!

This is what we have as regards of summer lapsing.
we work in groups of 5 in a pod..if someone goes sick or on holiday the other 4 have to prep it as part of indoor work.
then from now till end of march next year we have to do 12 ticks....a tick is to deliver one row of a frame. once you have done 12 tick that is it, you do not have to do any more extra work or can do it for overtime.
It works out at about an extra 40 or so minutes of work twelve times in a year, they are working on saving 15 hours per postman
I do not like the fact that it is not over the 20 odd weeks or so of summer savings were to be under phase 3 ie it over 48 weeks (no one can do it over 4 Xmas weeks.)
but we were offered this and was the best option
others were part time duties, to be brought in , at the moment we have none out of the 120 who work here.

It stinks but it stinks less than what we hear other offices have to do
but we know come next year they will want more than 12 ticks

I'll not be doing any summer lapsing for the simple reason of 'I don't have the time on my duty' :Very Happy

12 ticks this 16 next and 25 the year after that. You wernt offered anything you were manipulated and fell for it. lapsing is only if normal times allowv but you lot have sold 15 hours of your life for NOTHING guarenteed.
Come next year your managers are going to say to you lot you have a choice of allowing us to cut 3 of your jobs with your permission or we are going to cut 6 without it because they have a whipped scared workforce i am bloody glad i dont work in such a scared stupid short sighted office as that, as above i never lapse because i dont have time.
