Post Office chat closed

Post by POSTMAN »

The Business and Enterprise Committee web forum on the future of the Post Office has now closed

A bandwidth supping 327 posts were made on the sparsely advertised forum which closed it's doors on March 10th.

Through the forum the Committee wants to find out from individuals how the post office network is important to them. What services must the public be able to access through the post office network, regardless of whether they are profitable? What new services could help make the network more profitable and help reduce the subsidy it receives?

The results will feed into the Committee’s inquiry Post Offices: Securing their future. The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) has requested the Committee's report by the summer.

Peter Luff MP, Chairman of the Business and Enterprise Committee

"Thank you very much for all your web forum posts. The Business and Enterprise Committee has been interested to hear your views on post offices and you have made a valuable contribution to our inquiry.

"Many of you have highlighted the important role post offices play in communities, particularly in rural and deprived urban areas, and particularly for older and disabled people. Many posts emphasised that the cost-effectiveness of post offices was secondary to the numerous social functions they serve. And many of you have suggested numerous additional services that post offices could offer, as well as ways that current services could be expanded or provided more consistently.

"Although there are many post office users who are comfortable with online technology, there are clearly many others within society who are not, and transactions over the internet cannot completely replace the services available through post offices.

"We are grateful for your participation in the web forum. Your comments will help guide the Committee as it embarks on a series of visits and oral evidence sessions over the next two months and help inform the recommendations the Committee makes to the Government, which we hope to publish in a report in early summer 2009."

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Just another bunch of politicians trying to make up their mind what to do with The Post Office, or Royal Mail Group, or whatever it’s called these days.

Staggering that nobody ever thinks to ask, and listen to, the people that work in the industry…

They did. We were allowed to use it too. I went on there myself.

It doesn't mean that they'll pay any attention to what was said. They'll probably use the excuse, that there were so few Posters, that it wasn't representative. Or some similar spin. I have no faith whatsoever in the current Government.
