some overtime is created by unplanned events e.g. unusually high absenteeism, postmen requesting leave on saturdays etc. etc. and at moment we have european elections leaflets, which can only be done by posties working overtime. also we accept duties done by schedule attendance, is this not overtime ?

Yes I agree with all those points Taxi, and with a less underhand employer there would be no issue.
However, you ,I, and everybody else who works for RM must now be acutely aware that the new management delivery model is based on part time labour with reduced pensions, reduced holiday payments ,and reduced union membership. So they get the same amount of work done whilst paying you less and stifling any opposition to their plans. I don't think it's selfish to point to the hidden crevasse.

think we all agree that everyone who wants to be full-time should be .also re pensions , i feel this no pay rise but £400 bonus. is a further attack on our pension, as this bonus isnt pensionable

dont agree with you prowler. firstly management at Dundee West are culpable as they never acted as a "buffer" between us and higher management. the excuses you are using for them, are the ones used at the Nuremburg trials, " we were only doing our job" secondly once all duties are restored as before, surely you cant deny staff, most who are part-time with families, the chance to work overtime to make a decent wage?.im lucky in that me and my wife work full time and my family have grown up.but im not so selfish that i dont see people around me struggling.

Agreed. However the majority of Lino's were postie's who weren't very good at the job in the first place!
Seems to be a common thing in Royal Mail ( Can't do the Postie bit, so we'll make you a Lino!). They are powerless to prevent system changes however.
One of our lino's told me last Saturday that if he had a white flag he would be waving it!
Overtime always has been and remains "optional". No one is forced to do it, and for those that do, it is none of our business why they do it. We are currently living in a recession where thousands of people are losing their jobs, and if members choose to do overtime it maybe through necessity or the chance to give their families the chance of a decent living.
Surely we can't hold that against them.

Yep and worth pointing out once again that management's £7,500 bonus this year ,is, after the last agreement, fully pensionable. Obviously even in the present difficult trading climate there is enough surplus cash to reward SOME of the workforce(I use the term very loosely )

I'm not using excuses for them. Personally I have no time for them, but if they don't do what they are told, they are threatened with the sack. Have you seen some of them lately?? Its a pity they are unable to stand up for themselves.
They are quite frankly a disgrace to the union movement. Please email UNITE and let them know that.
I'm sorry but part-timers working overtime is exactly what RM wants. If people want to work part-time fine, otherwise let's keep full time jobs.

And it is the same everywhere in the land we cannot expect sympathy from bast*rds yet some will coming early and use thier cars and not claim for thier break nor going over!. I SAY TOO THOSE WHO DO NOT CLAIM LOOK TOO YOUR LOCAL MP FOR THEY ALL CLAIM FOR SOMETHING AND GIVE NOTHING IN RETURN!.

These people are the real problem.

I have people at my office that moan about people coming in an hour early. I asked 2 of these people what time they came in and they said 5.45. We start at 6am. Told them they are giving RM £2 a day, £10 a week, £40 a month free labour.

If people started on time, took their breaks, never used the cars RM would have no choice but to employ more people.
Out of 100 staff at our office there are no more than 10 of us that start bang on time.
On Thursday one bloke got in at 4.45am finished at 3.45pm and never claimed a penny!! He's not alone.

It is with a heavy heart I post the following.
Our victory over Royal Mail took a distinct u-turn this morning, when it was announced that "senior" management had ordered our Dom to reverse the agreement made on Thursday and re-impose the Executive Action.
All deliveries will remain under the pegasus model.
A shocked Dundee West was informed of the decision this morning at a hastily called team briefing.
I honestly don't know what happens now really,the Dom said she has nowhere to turn.
A common sense agreement had been reached, and to save face senior beaks rejected it!

latest development at Dundee West. manager called us together to speak to us. her and her superiors have been over-ruled by London .despite local and regional managers conceding that the duties forced on us by EA. werent working. and an agreement to go back to our old duties tempory was accepted.our managers have been "instructed" to plough ahead with the disaster area that our office has become.JESUS WEPT

I'm not surprised, the DOM was going out on a limb to reverse the EA. As I stated previously, managers at DDW are not responsible for this. Common sense flies out the window. The only solution to this now is a NATIONAL STRIKE. Its also about time the general public were made aware of the political games being played by RM management.
