Thats correct, so an agreement will have to be made after the backlog is cleared. In that case, where do they find the savings if everyone is 'doing the job properly'?? In that case, even some of the original duties will not work. Bit too early to be claiming any type of victory. In any case, according to the letter I have just received from the CWU, nobody should be cooperating with RM with regard to office savings until a national agreement is reached.

The 7 walks(duties) that were removed under the Executive Action are to be returned to the sectors, and every walk will revert to it's original pre pegasus delivery. ( The duties that were drawn up by the workforce under the implementation of SDD.)
The four EVR's agreed will go ahead as planned in July.

As a result our overtime ban will be lifted.

I know where many of you are coming from regarding the alleged lack of a victory.
However getting any form of Royal Mail management to backtrack on anything is in my experience extremely rare and therefore should be taken as a small victory for us.

It is a victory Dundeepostie and one that should be applauded for. You may not have an agreement but someone upstairs in Dundee West will know better than to try and push some unworkable idea in without negotiating. Dundee West is the blueprint for RM to look at and see the mess they will create without the support of the CWU. It is also the level the rest of us need to fight to get to. Well done guys

Lets hope that Dundee East can match your stance and let RM know that they can't just throw any hair brained ideas in through force and expect everyone to sit back and do nothing.

They have shut the callers office in Dunfermline,this afternoon,all the staff have been sent out with all the cut off's,managers have been out delivering till 2000,2 or 3 lads were walk tested today,you ken the drill,counting the mail,out out on delivery etc,the walks have come back as 4hour deliveries,happy days ahead!!!!

The following day one of the managers said that this particular delivery had only taken 3 and a half hours.(This was immediately queried as it looks like a challenger for a racing circut!) But the query was dismissed, until the driver opened one of the pouch boxes yesterday to drop off bags, and found two bags of mail from the previous day when the manager tested it! No wonder it only took her 3 and a half hours, over an hours work was still in the box!!
When the affected Postie asked what he was to do today with these bags? The reply was the usual shrug of the shoulders!
They eventually gave him a hand!!

Not true, there will be massive relief on the managers at Dundee West as none of this was their doing. Senior management at RM is responsible for this and it goes all the way to the top. Its about time some of these people are held responsible for their actions - I won't hold my breath.
TBH it was the imminent arrival of the election material as well as a huge mailsort and parcel backlog that would have pushed DDW over the edge. They had to act quickly.
Let's not all get carried away, there is still no agreement and the savings still have to be made. In the meantime, nobody should be working overtime and everybody should be doing the job properly. It would not surprise me if some people are already working overtime to clear the backlog on the basis of a promise from management.
Dundee West runs on a culture of a minority of people working overtime ALL the time, and could not operate otherwise.
Lets get more jobs and stop this culture of people scrabbling for overtime to boost their wages, this is exactly what RM wants. Its cheaper for RM and they can hold the wages down.

Agreed Prowler. The Lino's had seen it wasn't working at least a fortnight ago, and had admitted so. The DOM is in the same position. The higher management continously wash their hands of the affects their decisions lead to. The job isn't difficult in theory:- Post it, Get it there, and deliver it!
But God Royal Mail makes it hard!
The man responsible for re-drawing all the walks has wiped the original deliveries from the A-Plus system! Thus further hindering the return to the original system. It is still going ahead on Monday, but you have to go to where any other bits of your delivery are and get them. Okay in theory, but i'll reserve judgement until Monday. Surely the time has come for him to pay with his job?!
This is the second time he has wrecked our office with his "laptop", but like Prowler I wont hold my breath.
The savings have been met with the four EVR'S being taken and the 3 vacancies that existed being filled by existing staff.
The overtime issue is another matter entirely, and I honestly believe that "the do the job properly" system that has been in place over the last month will continue. If it doesn't we will effectively seal our own death and we would all be personally responsible.

I think the point is Taxi that the work clearly exists , and by snubbing OT in the short term,which is obviously cut price labour for RM ,then long term you just might get people employed on proper contracts with fair rewards
