Staff can't even get near their lockers because of the overspill of parcels ,the H&S rep is constantly fighting with the lineos about the fire exits being blocked by parcels .Its a feckin madhoose.

As an example in April 2008 Iceland Foods were found to be in breach of Fire Safety Legislation:

Iceland pleaded guilty in court to four charges relating to:
- Failure to properly manage fire safety measures

- Failure to properly instruct and train its staff

- Failure to keep, and maintain, emergency exit routes clear

- Means of escape could not be quickly and safely used

Funny all this mail and packets lying about. Management last year said their order of priority for the culture in Royal Mail should always be 1. Health and Safety 2. Quality of Service and 3. Costs. I maybe missunderstood and they were announcing it, like Miss World, in reverse order

Good Afternoon friends and colleagues

A dramatic turn of events took place at Dundee West this morning.
First of all the Dim's brought in four agency staff to do packets! They gave them hi-viz vests and van keys!
Two of them came back their vans still full of packets and said "This aint for me!"
Then our dom gathered us into the middle of the floor and pleaded that we assist in sorting out the mounting backlog of mail and packets.
She was promptly told in no uncertain terms to go and get tae! As one of my colleagues shouted"This was brought about by their actions, and it needed to be restored to the way it was before ea came in."

Then low and be-hold, in a further briefing around the drop bag fittings at half 10, she announced that all removed walks were to be re-instated and She was removing the executive action!
She pointed out that she had been advised to "resolve the problem" and this was the only way she believed it could be done!
The "old" duties are to be in place by this coming Monday apparently." On that score I wait with baited breath.
A rare bloody nose to Royal Mail has been struck!

Agreed, it sound like a result until all the backlog of mail and packets/parcels are delivered. The CWU needs to get a grip on this situation before many more offices reach their own agreements with RM and the union is left sidelined.

call me cynical but i feel that this only a stopgap. the issue that was worrying them is this european election, with poll-cards and a free mail-shot guaranteed for each candidate. it was impossible for these to be delivered in the next 2 weeks. once the dust has settled, we will see just how much RM have relented. one things for sure, we all now know how much we save RM by coming in early, using own cars,not taking full breaks, ignoring H&S issues, etc etc. i only hope we dont lapse back into our old bad habits !!!!, that includes myself :mfo :mfo :mfo :mfo :mfo

I agree with your sentiments wholeheartedly. I for one am not that stupid to believe this is the end of their bully boy tactics. I also trust no-one from Royal Mail as far as I can throw them. I'm sure after the dust has settled and the mountain is cleared that another review will appear somewhere.However if they believe that the old Dundee West will return (taking cars, Not taking full meal breaks etc) they will be forced to think again. One thing that was clear coming away from the announcement was the boys and girls are going to be continuing "to do the job properly."

Taxi for leighton maybe right:- this maybe a panic measure due to the upcoming european election. but the fact that they found a packet in the backlog dating back to April 17th maybe just forcing them to review their actions.

However small a victory this maybe, a victory it is none the less. Time will tell if this is significant or not.
To get any form of Royal Mail management to admit defeat is always a bonus.

As for the removing of EA by Monday by the DOM do you have it in writing? If not ask for it, and until such times as the duties are returned pre EA, then surely non of the brothers and sisters should be even contemplating in assisting in sorting out the mounting backlog of mail and packets.

Don't think this is an agreement it is only returning baack to the original state the office was in before EA
