No he is sitting there waiting for the next wave of Postal worker demonstrations and the popular uprising against further privatisation, but then he will ignore themsavo wrote:http://uk.news.yahoo.com/4/20090512/tuk ... a1618.html

Brown has been completely out played by Cameron but I think the award for 'Idiot of the Moment' has to be the Speaker Michael Martin but I'm sure he'll survive another no confidence vote (I seem to remember he got into trouble before over his expenses).

Tribunal win for safety conscious post workers:
Postal workers' union CWU has secured payouts from Royal Mail for 27 workers who had their pay docked after taking part in a safe work campaign. The 27 postal staff at London's Streatham delivery office had up to two days' pay stopped after participating in a CWU 'Do the job properly' campaign in August last year. The campaign encourages workers to attend work on time and not come in early, take proper meal breaks, not carry bags heavier than agreed health and safety weight limits and not to use their private cars for delivering mail. Managers accused the staff or being on a go-slow. The 27 cases went before an employment tribunal at Croydon Tribunal Office on 2 September. Royal Mail's case collapsed on 4 September. The company now has to pay each worker sums of up to £170 in lost pay. CWU national officer Bob Gibson said: 'This is an important victory for both the individuals involved and the CWU. Postal workers should not be penalised for working in accordance with their contractual responsibilities and within health and safety guidelines. This result sends a strong message to Royal Mail that intimidating behaviour by managers against postal workers is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.' Dave Joyce, CWU's national health and safety officer, said: 'A culture of ignoring health and safety had developed in these offices and others where poorly trained local managers with an inability to manage health and safety as part of their normal activities meant that unsafe working went unchallenged because the sole focus was on productivity targets.' He added: 'Hopefully the new leadership in Royal Mail Letters will now work closely with the union to change this round and improve safety standards.'
"Today’s workplace has become heartless and soulless. Employees are seen as units of labour, automatons, functionaries, objects for achieving designated tasks, and as costs to be minimised."

oops. i was thinking of the lost post compensation.. no intention was made through cwu and work practices and disputes, which compenation is always due for rm wrong doings.
if i saw it earlier, i would have replied a bit quicker.. bit difficult keeping an eye on screen, reading yahoo email, watch news, and steak dinner all at the same time.

' it now turns out things are not quite what they seemed. Cameron may be returning £680 for his wisteria job. But he has no plans to pay back the tens of thousands of pounds in mortgage interest he's been charging to the public purse for years; just as Blears is coughing up £13,332 capital gains tax she avoided when selling one of three homes – but not the £45,000 profit she made from the deal at public expense.
What's more, Cameron was yesterday resisting proposals from Harriet Harman to cap the amount of mortgage interest MPs can claim on their second homes, not to mention the Lib Dem wheeze of banning MPs from making capital gains on expenses – and seemed less than keen on a fully independent adjudication on Tory MPs' past fiddles. It was, it seems, only the public impact of a string of comic-book Tory grandee scams, from moat dredging to swimming pool refurbishments, that forced him to act, in the true spirit of Blairite spin.'
god knows I never want to post anything that that could be construed as support of Blu Labour, but it seems Dave is'nt as snow white as the news is making out,

Re: Cameron forcing his MPs to pay back dodgy expenses
You find me a newspaper that doesn't have a political slant. Most people who still read print media read them to confirm their opinions about society. Be it your Guardian readers or your Daily Mail readers.
The expenses situation is disgusting, but most industries including RM have people who play the expenses game. I worked with a couple and was one of the minor reasons why I left. What's the point of working with people who do not share the same desire as yourself. This does not mean that I have not done things that some would consider not right. I know that Stephen Fry got lambasted for a similar viewpoint when asked by Michael Crick about this. I tend to agree with him even though the bear baiting of these MPs is justified as they tried to sweep this under the carper and it's about time we kicked a few of them out of their long held seats.
Viva la Revolution

Re: Cameron forcing his MPs to pay back dodgy expenses
The argument used by one MP on Five Live was that she couldn't afford to pay her staff properly that do the constituent's casework , so to raise her salary she played the expenses game . Mo Mowlem used to send her flunkies out to get Tampax for her to embarrass them , so I presume that particular MP's game was charge as much as possible to the state even a copy of " Bella " to read on the train .F0zziebear wrote:You find me a newspaper that doesn't have a political slant. Her other argument she used was that in a deprived Home Counties constituency she'd naturally have a higher workload than say Sir Herbert Gusset Conservative MP in a leafy well - to -do seat in Surrey & she could make more in her own profession as a lawyer , she conveniently omitted the status and kudos of being a MP in the first place though
There was another call from a civil servant , he said that with claims , MP's were a species apart ; second only to God . If anything was questionable , it had to be flagged up to the Director who would be very nervous about the House of Commons coming down on him like a ton of bricks .

I'd love to see that American style of public inquisition (Remember Clinton?0 introduced here. It would be so nice to see everyone of these spivs interogated in the full public view. They should be wired up to lie detectors, and I'll bet every time they claim it was an honest mistake,or 'bad accounting'or they really, really, needed a massage chair, the needle would shoot
from the graph!
It wouldn't be so bad if they actually served their constituants---but I don't suppose they have the time,it must take hours each day working out their expenses--and that paper was right.Prime Ministers Question time should be renamed"Fiddlers
