my view is that if a driver cant see me pushing a great big red trolley he shouldn`t be on the road anyway and if I am it whilst on a path I cant see how a hi-viz jacket will save me.

Re: Hi Viz vests
If it's a H&S requirement to wear hi-vis on the streets, why aren't courier staff,
traffic wardens, and police (apart from traffic cops and riot police who wear them
to cover their numbers) wearing them?

Re: Hi Viz vests
I had to wear one as a multi drop van driver ( Sh*tty Link ) and a grass cutter - both on residentials ( quiet roads ) and highways ( Uxbridge Rd in Hayes and associated main roads )baldrick wrote:If it's a H&S requirement to wear hi-vis on the streets, why aren't courier staff,

Forgot - also when I was on the dust.....not bin bags or wheely bins, only bulky rubbish onto a 7.5 tonne tipper.
I don't suppose your mouth bleeds every 28 days, does it?

I'll wear mine because I'm a big enough target for management reprisals without giving them ammunition to attack me.

You and me both mate ! But I still ain't wearing it nor a tin hat to and from work on their crappy bike which as far as I'm concerned they can have back if they want me to sign up to the ludicrous rules as quoted previously in this thread.disgruntledpostie1 wrote:I'll wear mine because I'm a big enough target for management reprisals without giving them ammunition to attack me.

I will always wear mine if that's what I'm told. And as far. As helmets on bikes why would anyone not wear them whether at work or not. I'm a cyclist. And always wear mine however short the journey is and one day it may save my life.

Re: Hi Viz vests
It's called choice mate ! I don't believe that helmets are all they are cracked-up to be. In fact a lot of road safety experts question their benefit. You are right though it could save your life and not wearing one might cost me mine. But it is my choice not to wear it the same as it is my choice to drink, smoke or eat fatty foods if I want to. I am an adult and take full responsibility for my actions and I would happily sign a statement to that effect.tiredwalker wrote:I will always wear mine if that's what I'm told. And as far. I do not need to be continually treated like a child by the nanny state or my employers.

Yet anyone with a CBT will tell you, they were taught that even at 30mph, the protective qualities of those items amount to Jack Sh*t!tolkien wrote:you should try riding A MOPED for your delivery and have to wear helmet ,long trousers ,fleece, gloves and hi viz all day during the peak sun and heat now we dont get out untill 10.15 and finish around 2.45 if you are caught not wearing any of them instant conduct coded its like being microwaved and cooked ,but its ok as we have just been told to be carefull in the sun, my arse

I wouldn't ride one of their mopeds because I don't have a licence to ride a bike so I'm not trained and therefore not using onesmokerjim wrote:Yet anyone with a CBT will tell you, they were taught that even at 30mph, the protective qualities of those items amount to Jack Sh*t!tolkien wrote:you should try riding A MOPED for your delivery and have to wear helmet ,long trousers ,fleece, gloves and hi viz all day during the peak sun and heat now we dont get out untill 10.15 and finish around 2.45 if you are caught not wearing any of them instant conduct coded its like being microwaved and cooked ,but its ok as we have just been told to be carefull in the sun, my arse

Re: Hi Viz vests
Hasn't the use of mopeds been banned in Royal Mail?

Re: Hi Viz vests
Oddly enough brother I was under the same impression, after a fatality when a young lad was killed whilst using his own, and the use of motorcycles was also banned. There does seem to be a different ruling in Ireland though as I am sure I saw an article in one of the magazines, either voice or the other one showing new machines being delivered. I don't think it's my age because it was fairly recent - last year sometime.brothermagrew wrote:Hasn't the use of mopeds been banned in Royal Mail?
