Wrong mail for 15 years

A POSTAL nightmare lasting more than 15 years has forced a disabled South Yorkshire pensioner to trek quarter of a mile to redeliver mail wrongly posted to her house.

Multiple sclerosis sufferer Christine Ward, aged 63, says she has had enough of postal workers pushing the wrong letters through the door of her home in Scawthorpe, Doncaster, because it is not being sorted properly.

The problem began when new houses were built on Langthwaite Lane 16 years ago and Mrs Ward and her husband Dennis started getting mail intended for the same number as their house in Langthwaite Road, where they have lived for 40 years.

"We've been getting letters at least once a week, sometimes two or three times, for all that time and whenever I have tried to complain I spend ages on the phone to Royal Mail and get nowhere," she said.

"I've kept telling the postman and they always say it's been wrongly sorted at the office and they'll check the addresses. It will stop for a while but every time we get a new postman it starts again."

Now managers from the delivery office in Middle Bank have personally apologised to the couple and delivered a bouquet to them.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: "We have received a complaint from Mrs Ward about misdelivered mail. This has been investigated and delivery staff have been reminded to take extra care when sorting mail for these two very similar addresses."

:d'oh! How many times, if you have a regular postie then the mistakes are kept to a minimum but RM don't seem to recognise this and keep people moving around, never getting used to the duty :mad (although in my office, if you show a level of incompetence you get kept on one duty, as the DOM told me 'x can't cope with moving around duties so because you can you'll always do it').

Looking on Google Maps although the lane one is longest by far it only has 2 small groups of houses at the start and even though it passes within a few yards of the road one there is no way to get from one to the other. I think they may be on 2 different duties and the cover guys only read the Langthwaite part of the address and put it into the frame. Guess they now have a warning card. Sequencing would help cut down on these problems though I think.

The same thing happens in MCs. Some people when asked to sort on another Division
will say they don't know that Division sorting, and get left where they are, while those
who do know (or will learn) get moved around.
There was a time when you were expected to be able to learn different Divisions if you
were a PHG. With the scrapping of the PHG grade it seems you can choose how much
you want to learn, and the less you know the better, as you will be left to do what you want.

I suppose it could be worse, if you're really dumb you can always get promoted to management :chuckle

PHG's had to learn outward roads on secondary national mail and all the walks on Intra or DO secondary , people were tested on them too .One guy's sorting knowledge was based on the pubs and the nearby streets but he knew them . All went to pot with all this dumbing down which in reality just makes more work for other people down the line .

If an addresses mail is going wrong why have management not thrown in a special instruction card and getting mail checked every day? would take 1 minute or less from their full time T break, posties would get the message and sort it and customers would get the correct mail every day. not hard is it. Why are management not managing?

Because they can't (or won't).
