UPDATE ON MEETINGS WITH ROYAL MAIL
UPDATE ON MEETINGS WITH ROYAL MAIL
You will be aware the Postal Executive had previously agreed a process whereby the National Officers would meet with their respective functional leads to see if progress could be made on influencing Royal Mail’s plans and take these forward in conjunction with the Union’s policies and objectives.
This week the National Officers reported to the Postal Executive that despite further meetings with Royal Mail no real progress had been made and that Royal Mail continues to refuse to negotiate National Agreements.
At the same time the Executive Council is receiving and authorising increasing numbers of local industrial action ballot requests from across the country. These are all due to management’s attacks on jobs, terms and conditions combined with totally unrealistic budget demands in advance of automation.
Moreover, it is clear that Royal Mail have abandoned the commitments they agreed in Pay and Modernisation, particularly Phase 4, and are pressing on regardless with Mail Centre Rationalisation and a new Delivery Model.
We believe that Royal Mail’s increasingly hostile attitude is politically motivated and designed to get a reaction from the Union so they can portray us as opposed to change. Their intention being to deflect the criticism that have been aimed at them from Government and the Hooper report, blame the Union and undermine our “Keep the Post Public Campaign”.
Despite this the Union has no option other than to; once again, draw a line in the sand. Everybody must now recognise that unless Royal Mail now completely changes their current approach, then we face the real prospect of a national industrial action ballot in the near future.
In the meantime, the Union will press ahead with local industrial action ballots, including a London wide ballot that is naturally gaining media attention. The Executive has also agreed to elevate discussions and are seeking an urgent meeting with Royal Mail Letters Chief Executive and HR Director.
We will offer the company a further opportunity to step back from their local attacks and work with the Union to resolve all the problems we face. To create the right environment we will propose a moratorium on industrial action and managerial executive action, whilst timetabled national negotiations take place.
Furthermore, we are prepared to again offer the company the opportunity to jointly restructure our whole approach to industrial relations.
Our primary objective being to ensure that both sides can work together, undertake professional negotiations and achieve unity of purpose around the challenges we face and the future direction of the company.
It can be seen from the aforementioned that the actions and behaviour of Royal Mail means we are now in a very serious situation. The Union will be writing directly to our members to explain the current position. In addition, we want our Branches to convey the content of this LTB to all representatives and workplaces.

It is apparent too me that you lack real grasp of the situation on the front line it is with deep regret that i must inform you of the intimidation by management of members and reps and this is not just my office but by and large every office in the land!. It cannot be right to just appease the royalmail management once again while terms and conditions are being eroded by the day, We all deserve better than the Munich agreement part two and as such it would be better for one and all in our union to draw a line in the sand and defend it for once and for all come hell or high water!. The time for appeasement has ended the time for the war has begun we did not set down this path but have been forced down the path too war a war we did not seek but was forced upon us all. if we don't fight we will be defeated if we do fight we could still be defeated but we have a chance and we owe it too ourselves and each and everyone of us to try at least we would all hold are heads high with no shame but appeasement has no place in our union and not defending those lines washed away in the ebb and flow in royalmails relentless tide of change is appeasement!.

Re: UPDATE ON MEETINGS WITH ROYAL MAIL
Look I am not defended anyone but I think your find a hard hitting letter from the union will be arriving to all members calling for a role call on whos up for the row.
Remember there are people in scotland losing money to fight this union. In addtion there are other pockets of the offices also standing up and being counted. On Monday Royal Mail will recieve notice of over 12000 thousand London Postal workers balloting for strike action in defence of the everyone in the CWU.
The National briefing in Manchester is a watershed for this union. I am fed up hearing from some Branch`s and divisional reps saying well we not up for a fight at this moment. Well the fact is that its about doing the hard work and getting members on board by having meetings with them either at the gate or inside during their meal reliefs. It takes time to get on members on board and hard work in my view their are too many lazy officiials who dont do the work and blame the members.
The fact is that members are the same everywhere once their told that Royal Mail are intent on destroying their terms and conditons and full time jobs and dont want a union in the workplace or anymore national agreements.
So whilst it is right to have a moan at national figures when they deserve it. As someone in the know i would also blame a number of divisons and branch`s for appeasement to Royal Mail at this point and betraying the rest of us by not informing their members of the positon on savings and while others are balloting for strike action.
The fact is Thursdays briefing will decide whether others will join in the fight or the most some will do will be to hold the coats of us who are willing to lose money to get a national agreement which benifits all members in the UK.
There can be no more hiding places for branch`s and divisons they either want a national union or they dont.

they are there. But that doesn't take away the fact there are bad reps etc. Take my office, this same rep, who a few years ago had us walking out on minor matters(Somebody being asked to wait ten minutes for a tea break)has spent the past few years 'advising' us to accept change after change------WE thought these orders were coming from above. Now very sadly, our office has not decided yet if coming out in support of others---all down to the rep doing his usual and telling everyone
different things. He, more than anything, has to be responsible for the Division in the ranks.
Anyway, I'd just like to say a wee Hurrah to Willie Marshall, who I heard on the radio this Morning.good on you!

A very honourable and true quote from brother dingo
but instead of area by area fighting rightfully to defend their terms and conditions and having in some instances to take unofficial industrial action or a rule 13 ballot. Why not have a once and for all CWU HQ led National ballot?

"Today’s workplace has become heartless and soulless. Employees are seen as units of labour, automatons, functionaries, objects for achieving designated tasks, and as costs to be minimised."

Maybe it makes life a lot more difficult and time consuming for RM to launch a thousand legal objections rather than one?brothermagrew wrote:There can be no more hiding places for branch`s and divisons they either want a national union or they dont.

Belial has a point there. It must be easier for each branch or workplace to ensure that theBELIAL wrote:Maybe it makes life a lot more difficult and time consuming for RM to launch a thousand legal objections rather than one?brothermagrew wrote:There can be no more hiding places for branch`s and divisons they either want a national union or they dont.

details of their members to be ballotted is accurate, and not likely to be challenged.
Those Branches and workplaces which don't have the organisation or will to ensure they can
take part might get legally challenged, but it would not affect everyone else.

I would say your post is the essence of my post in that we cannot all be London or Scotland and as admirable as the two such areas are it would be better for all if we did have the position clarified and we all united in a common front for one and all!. APPEASEMENT IS NOT A LOCAL OR AREA PROBLEM BUT A NATIONAL ONE WE MUST ALL OVERCOME IN THE GOODNESS OF TIME!.brothermagrew wrote:There can be no more hiding places for branch`s and divisons they either want a national union or they dont.

Re: UPDATE ON MEETINGS WITH ROYAL MAIL
I suppose area action will eventually bring a response from the less militant areas but is anything going to bring RM to the table and if it does what is going to make them abide by any agreements, they haven't in the past and they all but ignore the union and institute change at will, certainly in most areas. There are very many on here who are well versed in union affairs and I would ask them if they think that a National Ballot is feasible and sustainable.

Re: UPDATE ON MEETINGS WITH ROYAL MAIL
There is but two ways about this win or lose for some most it would be better too try to win for what you will lose more than out weighs the total cost in action to each and everyone of us for others lose would be more of the same and more and more sooner and sooner!. A win could mean reduced hours more work for part-time workers realistic work loads for the rest lose and we face more cuts more demands fewer workers jobs and un-realistic demands upon all the choice is ours and UNION H/Q's ALONE ONCE THE DEMANDS OF ROYALMAIL ARE SPELT OUT I AM SURE A VOTE FOR ACTION CAN BE ACHIEVED!.dvbuk55 wrote:I suppose area action will eventually bring a response from the less militant areas but is anything going to bring RM to the table and if it does what is going to make them abide by any agreements, they haven't in the past and they all but ignore the union and institute change at will, certainly in most areas.
