Prep sorting tests

Post by trythat »

I've had a quick search for 'sorting test', and come across some recent message's, but really didn't see any nationally agreed prep rates, or on how they should be calculated etc.

We've had a Georoute revision, which as you can imagine has not gone to plan. What seems to be happening is that 5 - 10% of the office are being prep tested, this is on their delivery frames which are RM2000, this involves someone counting all the letters, flats and packets, and then working out the prep rate per minute, which seem to be coming out below 8, I think the managers are trying for a rate of 12.

Now what I'd like to know is, can they test the whole delivery, or should it be a 20 minute test or even just a 1 minute test. Is there a printed agreement that I can print out and show the managers.

This Georoute is really becoming a pain in the ass :)

But what is that on, IPS, 48 Box, Flats or over the whole delivery, or any of the other formats that they like to think of. If thats over the whole delivery including flats and Pkts, then thats going some, in fact I'm not sure that it can be done day in day out, hour after hour.

11 a minute ona RM 2000 frame in my office no other test are done for prep

Offical aggrement is 1 min test 25 letters into the frame

There are no offical/agreed standards for the other elements of prepping a delivery.

So how does that work when the inward/outward test basics are 500 in 20 mins with 10% error rate? :hmmmm

Does this include tying down or just throwing the mail into the frame? The reason i ask is we've been told in our office we have to achieve 22 per min prepping and 20 mins to tie the whole duty down.

I don't know, all I know was the headline figure but because they haven't implemented it I don't know the full details (but 20 minutes seems to be very short to tie up a delivery, it's between 45 and 60 minutes depending on the duty).

RM are trying to enforce 11 per minute here. This is into a RM2000 frame.

NOTE:- In this office Its calculated from completion time of IPS to the minute you step out the office or commence meal relief!! :cry

This figure therefore includes prepping all flats and packets, doing redirections, Kill Offs, collecting Specials from the locker, bike and box keys, returning empty boxes and hanging bags, + things like filling your waterbottle, fetching waterproofs, suncreme, toilet, etc etc anything you require before commencement.

Ive been doing this job for 20+ years and only hitting about 8.5 per min..looks like I'm FUBAR and will be sent packing unless the CWU step up to the plate.

yours very concerned.

In the end all that RM is going to end up with is managers wandering around wondering why the one flyer left in the office can't delivery the whole office delivery on his own.

If a manager can prove to me it can be done (and it can be done accurately) then I'll do it, it's the same with delivery, I'm quite prepared to have a manager come out with me to let me know where I'm going wrong and to prove to me that the delivery is capable of being done in the alloted time.

There's no way you can do 11/minute having to do all that, ours is all mail which is bought to your frame already counted, then setting in, I'm pretty sure ours doesn't include getting specials etc, it just can't be done.
Has anyone in your office been able to do it?

If you start 45 to 60 minutes early everyday then it is possible :confused

We have a large proportion of Part time. A fair number start prep before there start time I would estimate about 30-50% anything between 10-20 mins on average..half dozen 1 hr early.

95% prep D2D in there own time and management are Adamant they get prepped in your time...They STILL tell anyone who asks, they are prepped in our time. This is after our Rep showed them the agreement

We also have O/T folk doing IPS Nightshifts..who prep during break or in between.

I'm told by the DOM that 50% of office are achieving the required prep figure. Seems I've been singled out.

They are pissed with me because I refuse to work any significant time beyond my hours. (Post Georoute thats every day at mo. Still out for 4hours + most days) Never had a problem prior to Georoute

So far been Iv'e been spied on, Round tested, (Confirmed oversize) One manager verbally accused me of taking the pi$$ on three seperate occasions in the last fortnight for leaving mail. Seems I've been the only one to have my prep rate looked at.

could it be possible that the office rep and area rep could go into disagreement over prep rates and flag it up further .we are trying to get ours to do this as we have visits from performance managers(spare doms)who will spend the whole day with individuals testing sorting rates ,counting mail etc, which in my opinion is stressful for the individuals.no one as yet knows how this is going to fathom out as some chaps have been tested twice i personally think that the tests will open the doors for getting rid of percieved poor performers or capabilty issues.
