Mail manager pays dearly for racist comments

Harassing her neighbour has landed a Royal Mail manager with a hefty fine. Christine Jones, 52, was ordered to pay more than £1,000 at Bedford Magistrates’ Court on Monday after being found guilty of harassing Alan Lawson.

Jones and her husband leased a garage from Mr Lawson. Jones of Station Road, Ridgmont, made racist comments to Mr Lawson’s pregnant wife Nilufari in August.

She said: “He had to go to what country to buy you and get you pregnant?”

When Mrs Lawson, who is of Indian and Iranian descendant, tried to explain that she was actually born in England, Jones replied ‘good for you’.

After that incident, Jones told Mr Lawson that she would paint the garage pink or blue depending on what sex their baby was and also that she would bang on the door at 5am to wake it up.

Defending, Kate Chidgey said: “She was under a lot of stress at the time because her husband suffered a head injury. She now recognises the consequences of her behaviour and regrets it.”

Magistrates fined Jones £585 for harassment and ordered her to pay £455 costs and £15 victim surcharge. Jones, who works at the Bedford Royal Mail office, said later that none of her comments made at the trial had anything to do with her colleagues.

She said: “I want to make it clear that it’s nothing to do with anybody at work.”

Does anybody have any info on the alleged allegation of racism by her at MK MC?
I know she was moved from MC to Bedford because of an allegation,know it went to ET, but know nothing more, any info anybody?

She has been found guilty by a Court of harassment,
so she will probably be in line for promotion soon.

She will probably be moved to another office, if it was a post person they would probably be sacked. We will just have to wait and see what happens to her. She says that it's nothing to do with work, but how many blacks, asians, polish, etc will see her in a different light within RM, how can she be telling posties about dignity and respect at work in WTL session when she has not practiced it herself.
