As a CWU rep i dealt with this isue about 2 years ago when a cat attack one of my members on a number of occasions but it got worse when the owners partner was a journo and did an artical for the scottish press which was the picked up by the nationals and made a small fortune out of taking the piss out of us"terrified postie scared of a wee cat" but revenge was sweet when delivers was suspended and he had to pick up his post from the D.O. :left:

I had this happen to me.
I got to this door and i saw a notice which said "Beware of the Cat",i thought it was amusing and went to push the mail through the door and nearly got my arm torn off (well a scratch on the hand then).
As said by others it happened away from the door the bloody cat was on full reach, but there was a notice,i just thought it was supposed to be funny.

might be wrong , but I think you have to have it looked at if you're bitten or scratched by a cat with sharp teeth / nails as it can come up in lumps which go red on the off chance you're allergic or something . Neat Antiseptic might see to it though .

They are good jumpers and very efficient little killing machines - I've been adopted by one , it's killed a few young rats and mice for me in my garden .

My cats kill everything that moves  from field mice to rats to pigeons to squirrels, I keep expecting to see sheep or cows at my front door some morning

There is a risk of Hepatitis C being contracted thru cat bites. Any bites or scratches should be washed out immediately to prevent infection and you should ensure your tetanus jabs are up to date.

I get bitten and scratched by my own cats all the time but luckily, they've not got the inclination to get off their arses when the postman arrives. Only the dog is bothered!

I used to have one cat on my old round that used to scratch thru the low letterbox so I got quite good at opening the letterbox with the toe of my boot, let the cat get bored with that for a second or two, then put the mail on the edge of the letterbox and push it thru with my foot. Had to do the same with the house next door cos they had a little Jack Russell whose mouth fitted thru the gap. He used to get the letterbox put down on his nose.
Does this rag smell of chloroform to you?

We know and understand what it is to hurt/cause damage to others (including animals) but they don't, for us to hurt an animal for revenge is just wrong because they won't understand why we've hurt them :d'oh! Just learn that sometimes we get hurt and that we avoid those situations in the future (it's called life).
