Dave did a deal with Millidge a long time ago to ensure there are no compulsory redundancies. Jon Millidge is an RM lifer and I believe almost the only one on the board. He and Dave go back some way now have shared many a cosy phonecall so Dave's letter to the branches is hot air in my opinion.

Re: RM TO ANNOUNCE PAY FREEZE
There is merit in what you say and with buy down being on the agenda then there shouldn't be any reluctance to accept the premise - however what they are looking for is a reduced wage bill not a reduced working week, so I would imagine RM would scoff at that - maybe we should have been pushing for that a few years ago, set the precedent and it wouldn't be such a shock to the powers that be.disgruntledpostie1 wrote:That's why we should be pushing for a shorter working week, afterall who could argue that reducing your hours wouldn't help a declining businessF0zziebear wrote:Not sure you will be getting much sympathy from the general public if Dave and his gang start rattling their tales. Would that not have been a good way to preserve "full time" employment - or at least full time pay.

Re: RM TO ANNOUNCE PAY FREEZE
This would be the best option as we all will soon have 4+ hour delivery and massive job cuts otherwise and would also help more staff have jobs in mail centers and distribution in the long run!.disgruntledpostie1 wrote:That's why we should be pushing for a shorter working week, afterall who could argue that reducing your hours wouldn't help a declining businessF0zziebear wrote:Not sure you will be getting much sympathy from the general public if Dave and his gang start rattling their tales. I hope we do get a pay rise - but if we don't I hope the union are geared up for not having an increase in subscription charges this year - and I don't joke.

Re: RM TO ANNOUNCE PAY FREEZE
Yes 35hr week win win situation. Hourly rate goes up, workload redistributed, no strike, certain amont of part timers(35hr) become full timers and union maintains grass roots suports. Oh nearly forgot the white elephant inthe room Royal Mail wont want it!!! Apart from that i think its a great way forward.

Re: RM TO ANNOUNCE PAY FREEZE
if FT went to 35 hour with no loss of pay
then PTimers would get a 10% pay rise
. because although there would be no increase in take home pay or Gross Pay but the hourly rate would increase.

Re: RM TO ANNOUNCE PAY FREEZE
We all will have too fight for it as nothing is given unto anyone in this climate of fear and terror of economic meltdown even though royalmail has made it's biggest profit for ten years!. And :cfo is still on his pay freeze does not mean his pension and the bonuses of his managers are not for they will all gain at our expense while we will not!.disgruntledpostie1 wrote:Sounds even more like a win-win-win situationTrueBlueTerrier wrote:if FT went to 35 hour with no loss of paythen PTimers would get a 10% pay rise
