Re: RM TO ANNOUNCE PAY FREEZE
Norbert, to the best of your knowledge, has that "other" service now improved / returned to being a decent place to work in &, if it has, in your opinion, can you see RM going the same way ( ie, a bit of sanity returns to mgmt & senior mgmt decisions and expectations )?
I don't suppose your mouth bleeds every 28 days, does it?

Re: RM TO ANNOUNCE PAY FREEZE
Sorry No ! , unless there's a massive cull and it'll cost a fortune to pay these people up that should have been put out to grass years ago I just can't ! and it'll mean losses and no or little investment in the industry - as basically you've got the worst of the old school RM & the worst of " the brave new world "smokerjim wrote:Norbert, to the best of your knowledge, has that "other" service now improved / returned to being a decent place to work in &, if it has, in your opinion, can you see RM going the same way ( ie, a bit of sanity returns to mgmt & senior mgmt decisions and expectations )?
There's too much politics and most of it emanates from Brussels or the Department of Trade and Industry , putting people in like :lfo & :cfo was purely to soften the union up , that's was Tony & McRuin's " public sector reform " , all stick with very little carrot . The other New Labour mistake is this idea of " mangeralism " , apparently you can manage anything if you're a "good manager" , unfortunately in the real world it doesn't work , there's been some high profile social services " mistakes " in London using that idea .
In a nutshell everything is for the benefit for the people running things - it doesn't serve anybody .
Joe Public does not fit in the equation and the staff are just commodities . :mfo knows all this that's why he's for TNT as a face saving exercise . From what I've seen from TNT , it's even worse than :lfo & :cfo RM .
All I can see is a load of private cartels trying to muscle in on the public sector and massive public spending cuts .
As for " the other service " , nobody with any sense believes that privatization was a good thing , the service has got much worse , there is no cooperation , there's a culture of paranoia , competition and blame , for people who work in there has to be a " suspension of reality " like people have to do with these daft Hollywood Formula Films . There's five times the subsidy required by the tax payer , it's very inefficient ,the corrupt government has no or little control over it , the regulators are toothless paper tigers , it's literally held together by a army of pen pushers , managers , accountants and specialist industry lawyers as everything is so fragmentized . The Shareholders and fat cats do well though !.
After Privatization there was trench warfare between the senior managers and the unions BUT eventually they did relent and realize it would be better to work with the unions . I'm sorry but I can't see that happening with RM as there's too many Senior Managers who want to line their pockets with privatization .
That " idea " could probably work in the states at a push but not in Britain , that is the mistake that the EEC are making , trying to make all the member states the same .

Re: RM TO ANNOUNCE PAY FREEZE
Are we still a public utility? If I remember correctly we're still own by the government, haven't the police, nurse's MP's, teachers and other public servants all received a pay rise this year. Also none of the above have to make a profit to get a rise, so why should we be any different.
In the last couple of years, I've taken a pay cut last year, have to work 5 extra years, had my pension reduced by roughly 15%-20%, had more put on my delivery, and of course been called a lazy git.
Is a cost of living to much to ask, or better yet, a large cut in working hours.

IMO The Coventry Postman bit is interesting , Hellmail used to be always doing articles on Coventry MC , they'd also dig up as many thieving postman stories in that area as possible or mention Coventry at one time as " expert opinion " .rockytony67 wrote:Hi All

28/11/07 he's got 10 years to go to retirement
12/12/07 he claims he was in the services and a trade unionist before joining RM
20/12/08 he's done 37 years and is coming up for retirement
And I've only looked at his first ten pages of post's(he's got 55)
Now before anyone accuses me of bullying or picking on someone, I would not normally do this to anyone, Tman post's a lot of things I disagree with but he is constant and backs up his argument(whether you agree or not) but I don't believe you can constantly post on the site and change your story time after time with out being pulled up about it
I've found that journalists trip themselves up when someone else writes something on behalf of the regular as they can't keep the story straight
One also mentioned living near there , IMO he sounded like the guy who ran the gloating strikebreaking postman forum . IMO I found their methods to be very underhand and their grounds for doing things , obscure , curious & vague .
Of course this could all be purely coincidence and my suspicious mind .

The case for privatization parroted off by someone of dubious identity on the fluffy side , is that Mandy is going for the bigger the business is ; the easier it is for RM to ride out the recession .
Mandy is only trying to protect RM - yeah right
That just goes back to the days of aggressive corporate takeovers like in the last years of the Tory Government , meaning private cartels and just happens to be the present neo - liberal EEC free market policy .

Or, it's a bonus if your monkeys actually have nuts.
Sadly RM have too many monkeys, too many nuts, but very few with both.

Re: RM TO ANNOUNCE PAY FREEZE
Not sure you will be getting much sympathy from the general public if Dave and his gang start rattling their tales. By the end of the year unemployment will be over 3 million.
Dave did a deal with Millidge a long time ago to ensure there are no compulsory redundancies. Jon Millidge is an RM lifer and I believe almost the only one on the board. He and Dave go back some way now have shared many a cosy phonecall so Dave's letter to the branches is hot air in my opinion.
