Postal workers in London are to be balloted for strikes over claims that up to 1,600 jobs are set to be axed, it has been announced.
The Communication Workers Union said it had seen plans to axe jobs, which it warned would threaten services and downgrade staff to a part-time workforce.
Deputy general secretary Dave Ward said: "Royal Mail needs to reach an agreement with us over modernisation. This is no way to deal with change."

I think Dave Ward has been living abroad for a couple of years - remember 2007 - that was the year you recommended accepting the 2007/2009 pay & MODERNISATION - an agreement that drove a 10 ton truck through national agreements and put the onus on local reps and trials that have undermined even local agreements.
