Re: willful delay?
lol
speedybloke you have to take this seriusly looks like they want to get rid of you - otherwise they wouldn't have taken u off delivery.
First off you have the right to a witness at the interview. Make sure it's the depot union rep and go in one day this week to see him and give him all the info. Even if you're not in the union he will represent you.
2nd get a diary and start writing down what managers have said to you and on what days.
3rd start thinking about your best line of defence. In the interview they will write down your excuses for you and if you make a good case they won't feel confident enough to sake you without fearing an unfair dissmissal case.
You have just one point crucial point to make-
You delivered your duty, had no time for the missorts and then came back to the depot with the undelivered mail to finish on time. There is NOTHING wrong with that atall. If they say u came back before your time (and that is their ONLY case) deny it and ask them to provide a witness statement to that fact. If they say u should have told a manager u were returnng mail tell them u have never been told that, which i'm sure u haven't.
If you think they have evidence you came back early your only case then would be to say you see everone else returns missorts so do the same. You should not be treated differently to any other staff, that is unfair and a breach of the law. Tell them you think you are being treated differntly to everyone else and that if u are disciplined everyone else should be too. If they sack u after you've made these points you will have a great case in a unfair dismissal case where the judge will read your RM interview statement. You would have to prove others leave mail on frame like u did to the court. Pictures with phone or get another postie to act as a witness.
Stay calm in the interview and make sure they get the point you did nothing but go along with everyday depot practice. :cfo

Re: willful delay?
surely willful delay means when you do it on purpose
if you accidently missort a letter i would say that it's human error...... and nobody accidently does things on purpose do they
if we were all sacked for making an error royal mail would have no staff left would they

Re: willful delay?
I was told if you have missorts you have to stay out and go back and deliver them, regardless if you are past your duty time or not.
Can anyone confirm as I smell bullshit.

One of the walks I do is a route along a straight VERY LONG road, from the edge of town into the centre. It takes ages to get from one end to the other. It would be impossible to return with missorts, so the smell you identify is correct.

Re: willful delay?
im p/t and dont prep the walks unless sometimes theres a few there on the table to finish off.
last week i was on a walk and a couple of roads had the similar names. eg 'earl road' & 'earl hill road'
you can see that the person(s) prepping the frame can make mistakes as the names of the rd/st is similar.
i came across a dozen or so missorts which i took back to the office

Re: willful delay?
Why would it be impossible to return with missorts? Basicly I was told I had a duty of care to my customer and had to completely finish regardless if I went over my contracted hours. I should not bring back any mail for the round, or missorts at all. I should stay out and deliver it regardless.yokel wrote:One of the walks I do is a route along a straight VERY LONG road, from the edge of town into the centre. I pointed out to the manager about my contracted hours and I finish at a certain time AND that I had already gone over regardless by 40 mins. I was told to stay out there or get done for willful delay. The fact that I had finished AND had to pick kids up meant nothing. My customers are more important than my kids even though I had finished work.
I am sick of this job, its worse than a gulag.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: willful delay?
You have a legal entitlement to work to your hours if you choose - so if you work up to your finish time, then wave cheerily at your DIM as you leave ( and he picks up your cut offs ), there are no problems - you should call your manager's bluff & see how far he is prepared to go with it!tiredwalker wrote:IPS wrote:Why would it be impossible to return with missorts? Re: willful delay?
I have only been a postie a couple of years and Royal Mail has been going a long time. The biggest surprise I have had working for Royal Mail is that there are not national answers to these problems, so that everyone knows what the rules are. Surely, if eg you are already over your time and then discover a missort which would mean a further long delay if you returned and delivered it, RM management do not want you to incur a couple of hours overtime to deliver one letter (or do they) My point is that surely these things should have been sorted out by now and guidelines in place. Luckily for me, my own office seems to have a common sense approach to these posers.
