You only take letter box size ones - cor your lucky.

Also packets are not covered by the USO but letters are so leaving a letter that needs signing for with the driver because he is going to that address may be grounds for "Delay of Mail". It certainly has at my place, the argument being there is no certainty that the driver will complete.

I must admit before I changed to my current duty I used to have to fight tooth and nail to get parkets and parcels taken on the van. Now that I have a duty which I have a van and do my own parcels and anothers rounds I find i'm quite easy going with them in deciding what I take or not. More often that not as long as they are not taking the piss I allow then to leave what ever they feel they can't take for whatever reason and if i'm going with a parcel or two again have no problem in adding smaller items to it. Surely thats just comon sense and flexible working with each other.

Has anyone got a picture and measurements of the official template because our office is using it soon.

I wish that happened at our place, I've lost count of the times there's been two of us at the same delivery point, or worse still someone answers and says, "another one"!

Its all down to team work i guess then, but i guess the thing is it has to be based on trust as soon as either one of you takes the piss then you just have a no win situation

i have a hybrid duty so i know when it's busy as i do delivery as well and on those occasions i don't kick off if there are a few dodgy packets, i guess i don't mind that much really if they add a little one to a big one, but if it will go through the box anyway then why give it to me? as they will be delivering the mail

adding little recordeds to packets as well is i think naughty! as i don't start my packets till 2-40pm then i wouldn't be right behind the delivery man as i would be doing my delivery, should see the stuff i take with me on delivery [won't go through letter box! your lucky] just as the delivery man has busy days so do the packet men so have a bit of give and take, it's not a one way street, i gotta get back for my collections

this will rumble on and on!!!!!!!!
you will never get it right
be happy!!! :chuckle

I don't mind what size packets a postie gives to me for an address i'm already going to it seems pointless us both knocking on the same door or them carrying something they don't really need to but I have told them many a time not to tie the mail or recorded letters to a parcel for the very reason stated above - I might not end up getting everything done so the letters/recorded letter will be returned to the office. I do however go round the duties I cover for parcels letting posties know where i've got parcels/specials for especially for the regular calls who get stuff most days or calls were there is never anyone home to save them having to carry em round.

Exactly.

However, I didn't realise there were different 'rules' for packets. I just assumed all packets get delivered. same as all letters get delivered. In fact I'm sure they do at my office. Surely a packet has the same chance of not getting delivered as a letter?

As a customer, if the van pulls up with a packet to be signed for, I wouldn't be happy if my posty knocked half an hour later with something else to be signed for, or just something that wouldn't fit through letterbox.

Not at all really, packets/parcels aren't covered by the USO so if they aren't delivered the managers/DOMs don't get it in the neck from above or have to go out and make sure they are delivered on the day they arrive in the office - which explains why when they can't get deliveries covered especially on a saturday you find drivers getting told to lapse packets and take a part of a walk out instead.

All I can see is RM neglecting to address the issue again. Drivers and foot soldiers against each other...We are on the same side for goodness sake. RM claim that letter volumes are falling we should collapse walks, lapse indoor hours etc. etc. What they fail to acknowledge is that packets have increased and are continue to increase....Yet they have not got a plan for the efficient delivery of them. It is this failure by management that has us arguing amongst ouirselves. STICK TOGETHER...approach management jointly explaining the difficulties. If they dont come up with a resolution both cut off if you do not have capacity within your duty time to complete.

The rule of thumb at our DO is that if its bigger than a shoe box it goes on the van.

However I have a good relationship with my driver and will take big packets for him when I know I will definitely get rid of them and he will take smaller packets for me if I tell him I have loads of packets/mail for 1 certain pouch.

If it doesnt fit in the pouch it goes in the van.

Had a huge row with afformentioned driver on Friday when 2 packets wouldnt fit, the bag was rammed full. He became both aggressive and threatening when I told him no way would I split my bag further as that would mean a 30-45 minute wait for him to drop off my next bag.

When I told him the following day about his threat he denied it was any kind of threat, I guess I, and the few lads I told about it, interpreted it differently than he did.

Spoke to the gaffer today about our heated conversation, leaving out the aggression and threatening behaviour, he told me to come straight to him with any packets that dont fit in a bid to keep myself and the driver from any contact.
