They used to be ok.
They would turn a blind eye to things and not make cuts if they could get away with it.
But now its a really pressurised job and they have to make these cuts and flog us to death or risk losing their jobs.
Some go about it a bit better than others though.Ours is ok sometimes but i think he lives in the past and thinks we can still make 2 hours a day like we did in the 90's.

Tman wrote:As 98% of so-called managers were originally posties, isn't the real issue here the traditional "knocking" of anyone seen to be attempting to climb out of the postie comfort zone?

Or maybe the DO gene pool is just too scarcely populated with those of sufficient nous to make any sort of manager? :hmmmm

Doesn't say much for RM staff when the most taxing decision most have to make is whether it's tea time yet or not.
Maybe the problem is that the posties that are now managers, come from the bottom end of the DO gene pool Tman, and oh for that postie comfort zone, which I and others could leave and all it's aches and pains, and become a manager and stand in front of my mates, and tell them things that I know are wrong and not workable, and say it privately but not have the balls to say to my DSM, oh it sounds like shangri la, but no I will stay in my comfort zone, I will not knock anyone climbing out out of that zone, because I know that some will make it
'Course that's true, but all I seem to hear is posties moaning about thier manager, when that same manager was their mate three months before.
Same obviously aren't cut out to be managers, but that can't be so universal; some must hack it as junior ML5s or 4s, surely?
And hack it they do :angel

Think we had a thread like this before....

I know a couple of brilliant managers, few good managers, a few awful ones and plenty which are OK if you don't have to deal with them much and trust them as far as you can kick em.

The best ones are ex coppers.
Does this rag smell of chloroform to you?

No sorry you've lost me there Good Managers,No we have a group of bullies that seem to think it's ok to talk about the lack of respect the staff have for them,if you say you would like to go home on time and there is not any staff to take up the over load then you would think the staff member had asked for a wage rise or the earth,
Being honest here we have lost any good managers years ago but we have got over time more of a type of manager that is there because its a bully and thinks it can push staff around but does not like it when the staff start pushing back, its not been working right in our office and the situation seems to be getting worse,we have had more manager changes this last few months than i could shake a stick at,so no we have no good managers at the moment.

Not posties, managers, making tea time decisions.

TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Also most new managers at present, at least in my neck of the woods, are graduates who have no experience in Royal Mail.
Also why do you see people commenting on bad managers as knocking anyone who wishes to progress, there are bad managers there are bad posties its a fact of life.

Yes they do. But as I explained earlier in this thread: The ones who try to do what's best for their Staff, rather than blindly towing the RM line. Tend to get a lot of trouble from above. So a lot of them, give in to the pressure, and stop thinking for themselves. There have been several examples in other threads, of people describing exactly this type of thing. So it's actually less to do with their ability to understand what needs doing. And more to do with whether they dare to go against their "superiors".

The infuriating thing about this attitude. Is that the good Managers (in my experience) tend to have better sections, because their Staff respect them (actual respect, not "showing respect" as required by the Dignity and Respect rules). People are more likley to put themselves out, for someone they respect. :hmmmm

Your right because the last manager who got in that situation is not around anymore, the replacement is a bully and gets a kick out of pushing staff around,i understand that they are being put into a place that none like and the senior managment is saying cut cut cut, hours have got to be slashed,we now have less staff and more managers and everything is going or gone pear shaped so they are left with staff who are fed up with working all the hours so when they say no we are going home today they turn to bullying. It's not right and to be honest to see a manager bully and pushing a member of staff around is very unpleasent to watch or listen to,

Must admit in my office the 2 managers are brand new and I have never had a problem in the 18 months i have been there .

Any time i needed time off i got it even though he had to juggle a few walks around .

Also I dont understand why ppl are saying new managers are bullies and push ppl around

Go in do ur time and go home ........ end of .

I find with the not so good managers its when you try to do the above and insist on finishing on time, thats when the problem occurs. In a normal day no problems at all its when the proverbial hits the fan.
