Postal complaint was out of order

FIRST-CLASS: I have just read the letters page in The Sentinel dated April 11 and was quite shocked to read Paul Hallam's letter of disgust, headlined "Unhelpful service at postal depot echoes the 1970s". I felt I had to put pen to paper in support of the lads there.

I visit Leek Road Sorting Office most days and have always found the staff there exceptionally polite and cheerful. They go out of their way to help, even when they are extremely busy. From the way Mr Hallam has described the people that work there, it just does not seem like the same people we are talking about. I am very surprised at his comments. The delivery card Mr Hallam describes is there for our protection and to assist with identity. It states quite clearly on the card that you must take it with you, along with some other form of identification, when you go to collect your parcel. These rules are not made just for Royal Mail's protection but ours as well. Royal Mail staff have to follow these rules. The lads at Leek Road Sorting Office work extremely hard and are very busy at the best of times. They have been working under a lot of strain just lately and I think they deserve praise, not complaints.

I, for one, hope they continue to keep Leek Road Sorting Office open for as long as I have to send parcels as they save me a great deal of time such as waiting in queues at the post office, when I drop my post off.

Keep up the good work, lads, and I can only say thanks for everything.
