A SOUTH Yorkshire postie who risked her life to rescue a pensioner from a blazing house has been recognised for her bravery at a ceremony in London.

Jamie Whittaker, aged 32, from Barnsley, spotted flames at one of the houses on her route and helped put out the fire and comfort the 92-year-old resident, along with a neighbour.

Once an ambulance had arrived she continued making her deliveries.

Doncaster postman Lewis Thorpe, 34, was also recognised at the Royal Mail's First Class People Awards for going above and beyond the call of duty.

He was nominated by the daughter of an elderly couple who described him as the 'postman of the century'.
She said: "The fact he can spend five minutes of his busy day making them smile makes him very special - what a credit to Royal Mail he is."

TV presenter Christine Bleakley presented the pair with a £500 cheque and framed certificate each.

She said: "Our postmen and women are a group of very remarkable people who contribute so much, with acts of kindness that make such a difference to the local communities where they live and work."

Hail from the Postal high lord of Europe. all Our people are the best and wish to serve the public no matter what! And you can quote me on that in your next speech you do to whoever bothers listen to you. On the QT we have sent an investigation team in to audit her claims for overtime as this act of bravery was done on RMs time and we aint gonna pay for that! We may even be able to sack her for not doing the job she was paid to do, fraud on the overtime issue or risking RM property (Her uniform could have got burnt so we will be sending it to a lab and if we find ONE bit of ash then stand by!) we dont care what but expect her gone in the month as we cant have her upstaging me Mandy or your good self and showing Royal Mail in a good light can we? Oh and whilst i have got your attention what about my bonus as i am down to my last few million quid! Of course your shair will be paid into the "normal Swiss bank account heres looking for a swift pay off er em resolution to all our problems and if not we will all meet up for a glass of champers in the nearest tax haven that one of us owns.

Yours the High Postal Lord of Europe!A Crozier.

PS when am i getting my seat in the Lords cause i have greased your palms enough aint i?
:nana Having a slight laugh here. Did any other office, roundabout the time the "huddles'were introduced have to take'praise' from the Management? along with the daily traffic, failures etc,if anyone had received a compliment from customers or whatever,
they were publically thanked.I imagine it was introduced to boost morale--but the recipients found it cringeworthy!
needless to say they got nothing but good natured banter from the their mates, but the idea was sooned dropped.
