STRIKING
Suppourted last strike fully, and could not pay my mortgage for 1 month,The Mortgage Co were not helpfull and could not understand why I went on strike !
What am concernd about are all RM costcutting plans,I KNOW THEY WILL CAUSE US LOTS OF GREIF,and do not agree with them.
But in the real world what do you do,If we strike we cannot pay our bills, and I find now and a lot of my mates do money is so much tighter than it was 2 years ago,
If you cannot pay your bills as a result of striking what can you do.The Council tax people again not helpfull, few people outside RM understand the situation.

you kind of assume that this reccomendation has come from H.Q.Surely ALL reps should be singing from the same hymn

Thanks for that, whilst their is some help out their for hardship proably my point is THe Mortgage co And Council tax are not sympathetic at all,and unsure how much help their really is especialy if what my Mortgage co told me last time ,Why did you go on strike if you knew you would not be able to pay your bills.randompostman wrote:Try this.Puppetmaster wrote:STRIKING

Looks like catch 21 If you dont go on strike you might be able to pay your bills with luck, also assuming RM cost cutting plans dont get to you either through causing sickness or some type of Disciplinary action ,If you do go on strike you definatley wont be able to pay your bills ,gives me stress knowing what can happen if I dont pay the bills, and are you wasting your time after the CWU nationaly sold us out in 2007 and since then no national or senior officials hae ever visitied our office or had a local meeting.
Guidence please?

Try to save the difference you were paying then 2007 on your mortgage to what you are paying now quite a bit i would think if you start now you would build up a slush fund quite quick, If you get a paper every day stop and save the 20 quid a month in your slush fund if you have sky choose a cheaper package or get rid of it if you are paying avcs in your pension stop until the threat of ia is over if you go out say 4 times a month make it 3. Slightly lower your living standards in every way including mobile phones utilities and put every bit of savings you can in another account including work bonus and some overtime. I dont know how much your mortgage is but everyone should have enough to pay at least a couple of months as well as poll tax and major bills at all times anyway. Its not a dig at any one its just a way of not being at the mercy of curcumstances beyond yours or our control.

Good advice - but I never go out, don't drink, smoke or entertain loose women - except the wife and she is very low maintenance - have no mortgage or HP, but fuel bills, community tax, sky, insurances for health, home, car dog, cat water leakages, gas leakages et al knock a hole in anyone's budget - and although the papers say that the price of food is going down they should see the bill at the supermarket checkout and savings are producing the lowest interest rates ever - it makes me want to go out and buy an even bigger TV.randompostman wrote:Try to save the difference you were paying then 2007 on your mortgage to what you are paying now quite a bit i would think if you start now you would build up a slush fund quite quick, If you get a paper every day stop and save the 20 quid a month in your slush fund if you have sky choose a cheaper package or get rid of it if you are paying avcs in your pension stop until the threat of ia is over if you go out say 4 times a month make it 3. Wow whats the point in living? Low maintenace wife computer and work thats sad, still you could cut costs on your food bill for you sheep dog by hunting a few rabbits if you live in the country or catch a few fish to eat if you live by the sea grow your own veg in your back garden turn your lights off more but as you dont have a mortgage and i presume you dont pay rent i am sure you have plenty of time to think of saving money that the rest of us just dont have time for because we worry about and are working extra time to pay bills so post away on how we can save money for an uncertain future.dvbuk55 wrote:Good advice - but I never go out, don't drink, smoke or entertain loose women - except the wife and she is very low maintenance - have no mortgage or HP, but fuel bills, community tax, sky, insurances for health, home, car dog, cat water leakages, gas leakages et al knock a hole in anyone's budget - and although the papers say that the price of food is going down they should see the bill at the supermarket checkout and savings are producing the lowest interest rates ever - it makes me want to go out and buy an even bigger TV.randompostman wrote:Try to save the difference you were paying then 2007 on your mortgage to what you are paying now quite a bit i would think if you start now you would build up a slush fund quite quick, If you get a paper every day stop and save the 20 quid a month in your slush fund if you have sky choose a cheaper package or get rid of it if you are paying avcs in your pension stop until the threat of ia is over if you go out say 4 times a month make it 3. Well I have tried that but what does 50p buy today - there was this one Irish bloke making obscene remarks too - so I gave up after 12 months.disgruntledpostie1 wrote:Next thing you'll be saying is that he should start selling his body on the street corner to make ends meet
Shame on you cutting back on my collies food indeed - I'd rather starve - he has only fresh chicken and the finest tinned food money can buy and bagged biscuits and he is my best friend - truth be told he is my only friend.
How to save money? well it's simple really, don't spend as much by:
Only eating on alternate days
Stop smoking
only switch the TV on when there is something worth watching
Don't have a mobile phone
Don't use the home phone - let them ring you
Only bathe when you absolutely have to
Only use the washing machine every other weekend - you can wear your shreddies for a week and then turn them inside out and wear them for another week
Buy a newspaper and don't buy toilet paper - when you've read it tear it into squares
Alternatively buy a small portion of chips and get them to wrap them in loads of newspaper
Don't live too long

Re: IMPORTANT:Time to fight and not give in
No but the question was about paying bills and the lack of help if a strike is called my post was about trying to help them to help themselves because the union state or mortgage company wont and losing the roof over our heads is a major headache for most of us if we go on strike not about someone that is lucky enough not to have those worries but offer no help and advice to those that do. If people are about to lose their house or be cut off can we really expect them not to go back to work? In any ia we need to be prepaired before the hard times start not wait till they are here and lose the ia by default and a slush fund of 2 months or more to pay all bills would give us a headstart on our employer or for any other important thing whilst having nothing but debt at the start means we stay slaves to the machine.

Re: IMPORTANT:Time to fight and not give in
I appreciate what you are saying but age gives me advantages that younger people don't have, however, I worked through the 70s and 80s when all the things you point out I had and still went on strike - you see the advantages of those days was a strike was a strike not an hour here and there or a day or half day once a week - we went out and stayed out - and how did I manage with two children, a mortgage etc - well - odd jobs, bit of pointing, bit of driving, replace a window, tidy a garden, pick vegetables - you see my life is easy now but hasn't always been so - but I never lost my sense of humour - my father always used to say "whats the worst that can happen to you - die! everything else you pick yourself up and start again". At the end of the day you cannot pay what you haven't got. As a matter of interest I'd swap the years I have for the problems you will face.randompostman wrote:No but the question was about paying bills and the lack of help if a strike is called my post was about trying to help them to help themselves because the union state or mortgage company wont and losing the roof over our heads is a major headache for most of us if we go on strike not about someone that is lucky enough not to have those worries but offer no help and advice to those that do. Well I certainly felt like complaining - I mean - I didn't know what half the things suggested were!disgruntledpostie1 wrote:You've never complained beforedvbuk55 wrote:Well I have tried that but what does 50p buy today - there was this one Irish bloke making obscene remarks too - so I gave up after 12 months.disgruntledpostie1 wrote:Next thing you'll be saying is that he should start selling his body on the street corner to make ends meet
