Thanks for that very informative. So what you are calling for are procedural changes to improve the democratic process ,sounds like a good idea ,do you think it will help with transparency ? Might help them to better carry out their role

In part procudural changes but maybe shifting more power from the Officers to the PEC. As I know the PEC often feel that they are not given enough information and some of their decisons are not carried out or delayed by the officers.

Moreover some of the PEC feel like bit players as all the main issues and negoations are taken on by officers and as their role has never been truely defined it does not allow for them to do other things like improving comms within regions etc.

In a more general way the Postal side is the least reprsented on their idustrial executive on a ratio per member. Whereas both the engineering and clerical side of the union have more on their idustrial executive per member than we do.

In my opinion one divisonal rep per divison should also sit on the PEC along with one TCR per territory. These can add vital information as to what is happening at the coal face in each divison and allow the PEC to have a better idea of the exact positon on all issues across the UK.

These sound like positive changes that might prevent our conference going the same way as the labour party pantomime conference that just gets ignored by the career bureaucrats .
Seems to me that officers witholding information and delaying or refusing to implement resolutions ,is a situation that should never be permitted to occur.

Couldnt agree more,

If a delay is required, by the officers or the NEC then Consultation should have took place to get a delay untill conference then conference can say if it still wishes to proceed with the policy it made last year. If conference says proceed then that should happen as soon as normal service is restored at Wimbledon.

Don't think I will be able to use all my 13 votes. Some/most of those election blurbs are a bit light on detail seems like they've forgotten 2007. Think I might restrict myself to the ones who said no and want to fight for the return our pension entitlements. On a more negative note it would have to be a cold day in hell before I gave my backing to any prospective union candidate who starts talking about inevitable staffing cuts in their election spiel ,thats not their job, its what management do

The thing is, if the PEC is unduly influenced by the "officers" and the instructions of the membership as put forward by the PEC are ignored by the "officers" and the Delivery side is not represented proportionately - then what on earth is the reason for a PEC in the first place? It cannot be denied that the modernisation agreement of 2007 was initially thrown out by the PEC but by "persuasion" was eventually agreed and the reason for that is still unclear. A bit like the pension "non-agreement" which was agreed - or else where is the campaign? It was never going to happen and we were lied to. We shouldn't be called a membership more a mushroomship - keep em in the dark and feed them cr@p.

The CWU will be lucky to survive the next five years - my advice would be make hay whilst the sun shines - nuclear winter is about to set in.
