DOM changing day off ?

Post by savo »

This has now been sorted to my satisfaction, but wanted to ask the question.....

Yesterday, DOM came round to see if any of us could work day off - i said i could, as bit skint at minute..

Anyway, while i was driving round i realised that it was school holiday week, and my mrs hadnt arranged child care for my day off as obviously i would be home.... rang her to see if she could sort childcare at short notice... very doubtful.

So rang the DOM, explained the situation, and apologised for messing him about, he then said that it wasnt a problem ( for him ) cos i was working what i thought was my day off anyway :evil/mad He said he had moved my day off to Good Friday and i would be owed a day in lieu !!! So we had a bit of a row over the phone, and i was steaming mad on rest of duty...

Got back to depot, he said that cos i am reserve, he can move the day off around ( the previous 50 odd times i have done that particular duty, have always had same day off )
Then he says, that he expects one of my colleague who has been off sick, to be back today, and if he is in, problem solved.

Went in today, and my colleague was back in, so didnt bother talking to DOM as assumed all ok now..... then someone else went sick.... but no word from DOM regarding me working day off.

After duty, he asked again if any way i could work day off - said i would if i could ( remember i had originally volunteered to do it ) but had no childcare - seemed to accept that and i left them to it.

So: Can they just change your day off like that ? I am half expecting that easter Monday will be my next day off !!!

Whatever duty you are covering you have the day of that is due on it.Unless you want to change.

What i mean is, if the duty you cover say next week has a sat off IE: if the normal duty holder was on it he would obviously have the sat off,it cant be changed. They can't just change duty days off willy nilly depending on who's on it.

They've tried it the odd time at my place and we told them bollox.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Is that set in stone with an official agreement ?
