AFAIK - In order for the job to be classed as skilled you must be able to gain a recognised qualification for it - Ie. an "A" Level in Postal deliveries or an NVQ Level 1 In Postal Deliveries and again AFAIK there isn't one.
In that case all jobs are skilled now that meaningless NVQs and such nonsence are given out to anyone that wants them just to try to give them a bit of pride in any menial minimum wage job.

Don't take them on Prawn Star. Just because some people earn a lot of money, they think they're better than us. Both academically, and in their contribution to the Country. I'm quite sure that Stock Brokers, consider themselves to be Skilled Workers. Yet all they actually do, is gamble with other people's money. True, they do have to study the Market, and make predictions. But there are plenty of people, who study "the form", before betting on the Horses. Personally, the only difference I see, is that the Stock Brokers, gamble with other people's money. And the "Punter" at the Bookies, gambles with his/her OWN money. :hmmmm

Obviously, there are a lot of jobs, which require specialist skills: Chemists; Doctors; Surgeons; Teachers; Systems Analysts; etc.. And they should be given the credit they deserve. But that doesn't mean that we're not Skilled. Instead of trying to come up with another term for Unskilled. We should be thinking of a new term, to distinguish between Highly Skilled (e.g. Surgeon), and Skilled. :hmmmm

Lets not get carried away with a misplaced opinion that we are skilled workers - for sure if you shaved a chimp and bunged an RM uniform on it, stuck it in a delivery office for 3 months it would soon make a line manager :left:

A surgeon may be "highly skilled" but he's classed as a professional, as are doctors etc. There's no need to think up any new terms, as they've got all the classifications they're ever going to need, but the classification "unskilled" is and always will be bottom of the pile.
It's the age old equation; education + effort = bigger pay packet. Simple, eh?
