Our office will lose 10 full time jobs as a result of the cuts plus another 2 full time jobs will go soon with ill health retirements. Those who are left are going to be working their arses off, which may force more people out for no VR payments. This is no longer a job where you can have a chat with the public as you will be going full out on delivery. The job as we know it will be gone . If your office has not been georouted yet you can expect it to come soon.RM don't take any notice of what you say any more they just want to make cuts.

Believe it or not, we have about a dozen vacant duties. Yet they're offering 30 EVRs. Work that one out!

Well I work that out as 42 vacancies - that surely can't be a delivery office - it must be a mail centre

I think there was only 1 EVR going at our office  and one of the older chaps got it and finishes in June i believe.

There's a few of us with our names down, i will snatch their hand off if i get offered it, would rather take my chances even in this harsh economic climate than stay in a job where the managers despise you, your physical and mental health will deteriorate as the savings regime gets worse, and a lot of the public have no respect for us.

If you did manaage to get it and it was £30k then that would be £300 a week net tax free for 2 years - plus the interest on the reducing balance and of course any benefits you were entitled to such as job seekers etc - so in reality you could survive quite easily for 2 years without working - which gives you the opportunity to weigh up your options - I put my name down but I doubt I'd get it but hey I ain't got that long to do anyway - I'll probably survive til I'm 65 if I have to.

Pertaining to the colleague shares,I have actually spoken to an OPG who was offered VR .Yes,he was offered £1400 by Royal Mail .From the horses mouth if you like.It 'd be interesting to find out if all offices in the country are offering this.

I was offered EVR last June, and wasn't offered anything for 'colleague shares' then.

There is a national policy on no savings. VRs mean that you are giving up savings. Royal Mail in London are being forced to go down the IR framework before they allow anyone to go on VRs. Giving VRs without an agreement is executive action and should be fought.

Lets face facts there will always be VRs but we have to get the right deal for everyone who stays and wants to remain full time.

Every hour which is saved and every VR which is accepted betrays those who are willing to strike in order to gain a national agreement which sercures full time jobs in the future.

In life there is always a chioce and in Royal Mail now there is a choice you either abide by the policy of no savings and support the CWU and yourselves who are fighting for the future or you sell the rest of us out.

Whilst the number of those who are willing to fight for a future is growing ,sadly so to are the numbers of those who have given up ingnored the policy , and are selling us all out. It is these that do anything for an easy ride and have no back bone.

dingo, I'm at Mount Pleasant and AFAIK VRs and EVRs have been sanctioned as
we have taken staff from MCs which have closed - the latest being Paddington,
and because work has been moved to HWDC, not to make savings.

Well I suppose that depends on what your role in Royal Mail is. If I was a delivery officer I wouldn't be looking forward to some indeterminate delivery span, with an indeterminate number of households, with an indeterminate method of delivery but you pays your money and you takes your choice. If only all decisions were taken on the good of all.

Its easy to say fight these changes but we fought in 2007 with not one person crossing the picket line and we still ended up with accepting most of RM wanted. The CWU itself is releasing papers saying that longer delivery spans, d2d being absorbed into workload are the future. We have got the best deal we could and to be honest its crap but we have had a little input which is more than we would get if EA were imposed like other offices in the area. The CWU know thousands of job are going,so do RM and so do we, so if your offered a bit of money you must either decide to go or stay and and suffer it out. Lots of people won't get that option.

Baldrick the VRs in the mount are linked to both Wand and the Paddington closure as well as the safe net projects. As are the VRs linked to the planned mail centre closures at Reading , Oxford , the North West etc.

What I was refering to was those based on bussiness savings which everyone agreed we would hold the line on every where. Yet we know that is not the case and some have sold us all out.

Dvbuk I do think your missing the point it is the classic Royal Mail con. Get everyone arguing about a longer delivery span and then introduce something far worse.

This is their plan.

Introuduce one outward plan in mail centres instead of the normal 35 therefore reducing out ward hours and assisting more mail centre closures. This would allow for more inward to be automated.

Then with all work which can be walk sequenced. Royal Mail confirmed that they have now all the money for the introduction of Walk sequencing and more will come on line as soon as Bristol and Gatwick as been assessed.

Currently 60% of work clears a mail centre from midnight mainly DSA , second class and mail sort that can be walk sequenced and arrive in delivery offices normal time, However the remaining 40% does not clear a mail centre until 4.40 in the morning. This work normally arrives in delivery units from 5.30 onwards. Royal Mail`s intention is to walk sequence this mail . The problem is becuase of the amount of slots the machine takes the same time to do 40% as it does 60% so the work wont be getting into delivery offices until after 10 and depending on where your office`s location is from where the walk sequencing is done it could be as late as 11.

You dont have to start early ie your current start times as 60% of the work is already in house or and you cant bench merge your packets and flats until the remaining 40% is done. With a last letter of 14:00 which Mark Higson Royal Mail senior director has stated will not be strictly enforced it means you will not even have a 3.5 hour span as you need travelling time still.

Hence a part time job. This is why Royal Mail have proposed as a starting point a 70 /30 split of full time and part time but you know that it wont be their end game.

So tell me what do you suggust is the answer as so far we have had posters arguing for no change to the current span , and saying that we refuse to include D2D into work load. Lets face it the status quo is not defendable as Royal Mail are employing more and more part timers as they believe that due to automation there is less IPS and prep work .

On D2D can you imagine Jagular workers refusing to take on biulding a mini if they had the chance No because work equals power. Yet we have a growing product which can assist in mantaining full time jobs by being included in the normal traffic figures yet its all to much for us.

Yet at the same time we have huge numbers of posters on here shouting do the job properly yet we are willing again to turn work away and refuse to explore avenues which may secure full time jobs in the future.

All you have to do is look at your own offices mech figures and compare them with a couple of years ago to see that we have less IPS and in the future we will have less prep to do once walk sequencing comes on stream. So if there is less work to prep and less to Ips and then if we keep at 3.5 we will have more part time jobs this is even before walk seq comes on stream. This is why we need a shorter working week as well.

I agree with what you have said but its the delivery postman who bears the brunt of longer delivery spans, not RM or CWU leaders. To walk 4 hours+ per day is just to much and many staff will just go sick and finish and RM will get rid of full time jobs that way. RM have their plan and they are not interested in what the union says.
