EU to blame for deplorable postal deliveries

Despite the recent restructuring of Barnstaple’s postal services and the replacement of postie’s bike with a trolley, it seems the EU is to blame for North Devon’s worsening postal deliveries.
Nick Harvey, MP for North Devon, notes:
‘I have been receiving a steady stream of complaints about slipping postal delivery times in and around Barnstaple.
‘The Royal Mail’s customer services have been telling local people that new EU regulations restrict driver flexibility, which means mail is taking longer to reach the mail centres.
‘Telling customers that the EU is preventing earlier deliveries seems far from defensible especially after previous undertakings.
‘This explanation is at odds with what we are being told locally and I shall be seeking clarification with the Royal Mail’s Chief Executive. Rural areas should not be penalised in favour of major urban centres.’

Perhaps RM should try telling the truth.
Deliveries are getting later due to cuts in staffing levels, and the need to wait for the competitions 'mail' to get through to the delivery offices.
Surely, with all these falling mail volumes we are constantly being told about, there is now less mail, so why do we have to wait later?

Some offices have not had the change others have had!. But if you think it is bad now just wait till the full mail center rationalisation programme instead of 78 just 56 mail centers!. And each one will take longer to deliver to each and every delivery office some delivery offices maybe made into massive delivery offices!. The transport and delivery may be hours apart we could be looking at deliveries in the night!.disgruntledpostie1 wrote:I really surprised they're still using it after 2 years

I can see the deliveries being the next day by the time all the mail gets ready to be delivered.k979aaa wrote:Some offices have not had the change others have had!. And to think that a hundred years ago deliveries were by 7am and that was well before motorways and internal airmail had been thought of. Progress indeed.

there is a pro privatization big business Cartel with a lot of influence within the EEC , there is a distinct lack of democracy and accountability , the Tories ( bar some rabid Eurosceptics ) were very keen on it in the 90's , basically it was race to the bottom , they were not so keen on the Social Chapter thoughBELIAL wrote:So sorry, its nowt to do with :mfo :cfo :lfo postcon; Bliar ;Brown; Murdoch; hedge funds; bank ,utility profits, It's all down to some faceless ethereal Euro power brokers who are so distant and untouchable they cannot be challengedIf it was up to me gov you'd all be on a living wage
The ironic thing about the EEC was that it was founded by former fascists , they didn't need to blow everyone and everything to b***ery , just get the member states to give up their sovereignty to govern their own countries as they saw fit .
Let's just say that Brussels is going into dangerous / dodgy territory

Re: EU to blame for deplorable postal deliveries
In my D.O walksorted mail is available early enough to sustain a 0530 start, yet RM back at the time of the dispute insisted 0600 was the earliest viable start time.
We didnt want to start at 0600 it was part of our reasons for striking.
Is it any wonder mbrs come in early when the work is availble for them to do?
Delivery duties in my D.O would be much better as 0530 start to throw off walksorted mail into prep frame before going onto IPS at normal time (06.10).
The mail centre even brings mail into the D.O at nights these days despite the nightshift going 5 years ago.
If start times were alinged with the day to day reality of mail arrival we could have a 0530 start and cut out the early starting. No early starts, no giving time to RM. Its a win win situation for CWU policy and for the mbrs that want to start earlier than 0600.
Royal Mail have been proved wrong, the mbrs lost earnings by heeding the call for stike action,so why not push for attendance time to be officaly earlier, is there not a duty upon the CWU to do so as 6am starts were part of our striking issues?
Look at it from the members view point 6am starts are agreed by the CWU after they drop the policy of start times being allinged to mail arrival, mail ends up arriving in time to make a 0530 or earlier start viable, nobody pushes for start times to be changed and the CWU seems more interested in making them start at 0600.

Re: EU to blame for deplorable postal deliveries
The reason RM wanted a 6am start was so they could do away with the early shift allowance, another reason they like to get rid of long serving staff, the new starts don't have grandfather rights to the early start money.

Norbert your posts are something I always look forward to reading , especially because your views often tally with my own.Sometimes it does seem as certain things have been done deliberately but sometimes I wonder if it is thru' incompetence rather than design or just the nature of the beast

That's the problem with New Labour , too many mixed agendas ; with some " reforms " there can be incompetence , too much blue sky thinking etc and things are destined to fail .Wessex wrote:Norbert your posts are something I always look forward to reading , especially because your views often tally with my own.Sometimes it does seem as certain things have been done deliberately but sometimes I wonder if it is thru' incompetence rather than design or just the nature of the beast
On Europe I really do think there is a Superstate Agenda - the Tories tried to turn this country into a cross between the US & Hong Kong in the 90's and I think this the plan for the EEC .
Apparently New Labour were " allowed " to have PC / right on policies on the proviso there was little regulation on the banks & the city , Non - Doms etc . To me New Labour is just a very bad Tory Party .
The irony is that a lot of Labour MEP's are quite to the left of New Labour .
