No big hang up we just want assurances and information on how and when they want to implement it and what help people will get if they have difficulties adjusting. Probably gave the same answer last time someone asked that question as well.fmrPOSTIE wrote:why the big hang up on Monthly pay? get in the real world, everybody else has monthly pay and its fine...
Oh and as to "everyone else" being paid monthly in my immediate family, 1 is paid monthly 5 including me are paid weekly, and one of the 5 is in a management position (not rm)

Yep - when I started telling them what goes on they thought I was making it up. They say its not man management they do at RM its panic management with school boy bully methods thrown in for good effect.Big Daz wrote:And I bet the one in mangement would be astonished by what passes for mangement in Royal Mail these days?

Exactly mate plus if we did go to monthly pay it would save the business a fortune in bank fees and payroll staff.andy2007 wrote:It's the transition that we're worried about. How will it be managed?
Will we have to go a Month without getting any Wages?
Or perhaps 2 weeks worth at the start of the first month, followed by the rest at the end?
An interest free loan?
Or some other method?
Do YOU trust RM to do it properly?
On this basis it is only right that some of the money is used to smooth the transition and raise basic pay.
It may well that most of the membership could handle monthly pay at a push but the fact is we are currently paid weekly and we must use it as a negotiating tool and not simply hand it over.

Your last point is spot on Lovejoy
Money for CWU members instead of bank fees seems a very good concept.

Re: Discussions on Royal Mail’s Modernisation Programme
That would never happen, I'm afraid. Too cumbersome to administer and would probably result in needing more admin staff at Sheffield, not less. It's obvious that the main reasons RM would like us on monthly pay areBig Daz wrote:Why cant it be just a matter of personal choice?

a) opportunity to slash jobs at Sheffield and
b) RM will earn huge sums in extra interest every year, on wages held on deposit for up to 31 days
Personally, I don't have any issue with being paid monthly, it's - as others have pointed out - the transition from weekly pay and how we pay our bills during that time if RM & CWU come up with a half-baked scheme that puts us in the financial do-dos for three weeks that gives me the heebeegeebees
We should definitely demand a slice of that extra revenue as the price of our agreeing to switch to monthly pay, though !!!

I would ask Ladbrokes for odds on Leighton ending up with a cushy little job on the board of TNT, if I didn't think they replyk979aaa wrote:Good riddance :lfo AND I THOUGHT THE FOOL :lfo WENT ON WEDNESDAY!.Big Daz wrote::lfo will no longer be on the payroll as from Wednesday morning.
