ECCLEFECHAN residents have been given an apology from the Royal Mail after delivering an “unprofessional” service last week.
Despite strong opposition, the village’s full-time sub post office in the Tennant House Stores was closed as part of government cutbacks.
And then plans to offer a limited time outreach centre in the village’s Costcutter store was abandoned.
Residents were then told that lobbying by themselves and politicians had secured the use of the Ecclefechan Day Centre to offer a 12-hour per week service.
However, the service was hit by computer problems which left residents unable to access services such as getting pensions and other benefits without lengthy delays.
Dumfriesshire MP David Mundell contacted Royal Mail after he was inundated with complaints from angry pensioners.
Royal Mail spokesman Ian Smith said: “I apologise for the disruption and inconvenience caused to any of our customers.”

Not that old chestnut about Dickie G - the wife told me about that years ago - and I still don't believe it - I mean it's too perverse .disgruntledpostie1 wrote:TrueBlueTerrier wrote:or the gerbil/hamsterdisgruntledpostie1 wrote:Someone forgot to wind up the computer before they went outjohnsouthwales wrote:what was causing the problem?died

When someone told me about 'fletching' I thought 'What's Chevy Chase got to do with it?'dvbuk55 wrote:Not that old chestnut about Dickie G - the wife told me about that years ago - and I still don't believe it - I mean it's too perverse .disgruntledpostie1 wrote:TrueBlueTerrier wrote:or the gerbil/hamsterdisgruntledpostie1 wrote:Someone forgot to wind up the computer before they went outjohnsouthwales wrote:what was causing the problem?died
