Re: I am leaving cwu
Got a voting slip today to vote for some guy who we've never heard of.
Also got a card asking us to re elect someone who wasn't even on the voting slip, but the card did have a different part of the country on it...
They also sent a voting slip to my OH who isn't in the union any more. He left them because he thought they were rubbish. Besides, he's full time, I'm part time so I joined instead and pay less for the same stuff.
I ended up just voting for the 2 people that were nearest to my area as I've not heard of any of them.

Does this rag smell of chloroform to you?

Re: I am leaving cwu
Although not perfect I would always strongly recommend staying with the CWU as it is the only recognised Union within Royal Mail. Also they are the only ones that can come to an agreement with Royal Mail and which is recognised as such in law as a "collective agreement".
However, as far as I know you can be a member of any political grouping or Union that you feel best addresses/matches your views.
Have you tried the Industrial Workers of The World - IWW - http://www.iww.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - we have a few members on here.
Apart from that I can't think of any more unless you try Unison (Local Government mainly though) http://www.unison.org.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, or the PCS (Public and Commercial Services) http://www.pcs.org.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - but again remember they wont be recognised by RM and they can't help in any disciplinary cases, pay disputes or industrial action.

What would be the point of that? They might be great at talking about the plight of the Mexican snow shovellers or whatever, but when you're on a stage two and the management won't allow the IWW bloke in the building......Have you tried the Industrial Workers of The World - IWW - http://www.iww.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - we have a few members on here.

Re: I am leaving cwu
Must have missed it. What is it exactly that you are leaving the union because of ? There's the usual shite about it being crap and all that but what is it exactly? Yeah the union ain't perfect - I should know I've been a rep for more years than I care to remember - and we certainly don't win them all. Who does?
If you think your rep is crap vote in someone else - it's that simple. oh and don't get yourself on the attendance or conduct code. your shout mate!

Re: I am leaving cwu
I'm leaving the cwu because they
1 asked me to ( have been told on several occasions if you don't like this or that leave)
2 I have fought lots of battles with management and union over the years taken two managers down the bulling route one was moved to another office then did same and sacked another took sick then medically retired this was done without any help from local and area cwu i asked for help but was only offered advise over the phone from area and local was to scared to put his head above the parapet.
3 We have just gone through a rural revision and had jobs taken out the local and area rep said they would stand by us if we couldn't complete or had problems this did not happen and we now have postmen on disciplinary codes for leaving mail and not completing ( not me ) so that is why i am leaving cwu

Re: I am leaving cwu
I'm sorry mate I don't get it. you have been in the job over 20 years, you are prepared to stand up for yourself so why not go for the rep job instead of just walking away?
it seems that your blokes could do with a good rep and maybe your area reps could do with a rocket in the appropriate place
As a rep you can't always tell people what they want to hear and I have told people to leave if they don't like the union. In fact I got a 2 year serious for doing it

Re: I am leaving cwu
isn't " amazing " how RM were so keen to get people on misconduct / gross misconduct to tick boxes and impress more senior managers with their dubious agendas , that " just happened " to be reps ; I bet they went to town on you as well ; proves the whole B&H policy is abused and corrupt .lekker wrote:I'm sorry mate I don't get it. you have been in the job over 20 years, you are prepared to stand up for yourself so why not go for the rep job instead of just walking away?it seems that your blokes could do with a good rep and maybe your area reps could do with a rocket in the appropriate place

It's actually a serious offence unfair detriment for legitimate TU activity but it means exhausting RM's channels which will be deliberately obstructive and taking them to a Industrial Tribunal .
The Union can't wave a magic wand , sometimes it's just concessions and compromise , the old days are long gone .
It happened with a mate of mine in another service and big union . One Woman had failed the aptitude test and her husband just happened to be a friend of a manager
She asked some advice ( basically she was taking the p**) , he said if you were not a member of the AA or the RAC you wouldn't call them if your car had broken down if you were not a member . He was " suddenly " dragged into the office by the Area Manager who had a long list of bullying complaints made against him .
My mate called his bluff for supposed H&B , I'll see you in Court , Bring it on - the bully started backing down -

Well what can i say you have made your decision and no one can do that for you but yourself and you will stick with it because you are stubborn and convinced in you opinion it is your choice and yours alone some may make the same choice as you it is thier right but it is regretable that you and others should have too make that choice!.

Yes it is very regrettable to have to make the choice to leave the cwu but i feel i have to, and hope that one day i may return when the union in my area gets itself back to where it should be backing up the people who rely on it and pay for it its postmen.

Re: I am leaving cwu
a very similar story to myself.....the union will only change when they get hit in the pocket unfortunately...that means members leaving, but then of course, it makes the union even weaker....I admire your stance and admire your victories against some of our loveable "managers"...exaandt wrote:Yes it is very regrettable to have to make the choice to leave the cwu but i feel i have to, and hope that one day i may return when the union in my area gets itself back to where it should be backing up the people who rely on it and pay for it its postmen.

Yeah, was I disagreeing with you? Sorry if me adding mine to yours looked that way to you, but my "question" was rhetorical. However, as far as I know you can be a member of any political grouping or Union that you feel best addresses/matches your views.
and but again remember they wont be recognised by RM and they can't help in any disciplinary cases, pay disputes or industrial action. at the end which I think addresses the questions you raised before you even asked them.

the paying membership(Sorry to the good reps, but it's true)--Good luck.
How so very, very true............
