Postal workers vote to end strike

Postal workers in Lincoln have voted to end their unofficial strike and return to work.

Up to 50 Royal Mail staff had walked out for a third successive day in a protest over what they said were changes to their working conditions.

The unofficial strike began on Monday outside the sorting office on Firth Road, Lincoln.

The Communication Workers Union (CWU) has told the BBC that staff have agreed to go back to work on Thursday.

Staff had said they were unhappy about a range of issues to do with their working conditions, including sharing vans and changes in delivery routines.

Deliveries to the LN1-LN6 areas were disrupted.

In a statement, Royal Mail said the action was unlawful and changes were agreed with the unions two years ago.

Nothing has changed, nothing at all sadly. Got the word from the horses mouth. If was a close vote, but a return to work either way. They needed Doncaster and Sheffield support really to be fair - then the house of cards would have fallen.

true IPS. One sad case of affairs. Makes you wonder what other offices have to face now with van sharing. i.e, pushed through locally without any agreements?
Although some offices that are doing this already have agreements locally.

i think anyone contemplating this sort of action would be wise to have an official ballot first. Otherwise they'll get nothing from the union other than be advised to go back to work.

Probably a good chance it may happen again soon. The van share thing was the final nail in the coffin. Things have been brewing up for a while now and if it wasnt the van share thing to trigger a walk out then something else would have done. This flexability bollocks is a main issue. It was meant to benefit everyone but its now used as a weapon for managers to do whatever they want. It certainly isnt working both ways in alot of offices.

Well in our office to give you an example we have to laps duties every week now and more every few months in the summer even more so and we can be made to go to other offices!.

It was a hard decision to end the strike, but as you all know you cant live on thin air, i jusy hope that it has made some sort of inpact, you might still think
lincoln is a soft touch, we tried to do something, we may have failed, but at least we TRIED.

Full credit to all the guys and gals at Lincoln for standing up and fighting.You ahve my total respect. The trouble is most posties voted YES for this s**t as the CWU recomended a YES and all for £400 poxy quid. You reap what you sow. If we had all done the maths (I did and voted NO) and seen it was not a good deal at all, then maybe, just maybe we would now not have a postal service with a high percentage of the whingers we have now. Once the horse has bolted and all that.

We still have idiots getting in early at out gaff all giving FREE work and we also have many of the YES voters now whinging cos more work is going on their rounds and they aint getting no more money for it. Plus, what will they cop as extra free work next year?

If the CWU has an agreement with Royal Snail HQ then it cant be changed surely BY LAW? If Royal Snail decieds other wise then we need the CWU HQ to start acting and kicking some arse do we not?
