Most of the time. But when you win a few it is worth it. I would advise any rep to try and get a deputy as sometimes it is advatageous to have backing when discussing things with managers as it avoids them claiming they never said it.....................

I have just taken over from the last rep and am now starting to regret it.
Hopefully i am going on a course on how to do the job soon as at the moment i am about as much use as a chocolate teapot.
I am not as anarchic as you lot seem so not sure this will stand me in good stead.
Seems that as soon as you go off for your meeting with the manager you are accused of coluding and after the perks ,whatever and wherever they are.
I have found that i am the mediator between managers who would like to make viscious cutbacks and workshy colleagues who come up whining about their workload totally ignoring the fact that i am falling way behind everyone else and then when i get to my frame i am ignored as they go out on their rounds and i am still throwing in, and when i get back they have all buggered off home.
Also the hot heads in the office who have private meetings with manager over changes and the protection of their own rounds make me want to chuck the whole lot in and to say Sod you all.
The last rep packed it in as as he put it "it was doing my head in".

I stood down as local rep as of Wednesday,after 7 years of being rep/sub rep Ive had enough.

Nobody come forward yet to take on the role and to be honest Im not expecting anybody to, they have all got excuses such as lack of experience,wouldnt know what to do,wouldnt be able to control their temper, haven't got time etc etc.

On the bright side somebody is taking on the local safety rep role very soon.

Ive been persuaded to take back on the local rep job after a 4 and a half month break nobody put in for it and its vital RML understand that phase 3 absorption should be worked ut/identfied jointly and what ever we do has to be sensible and genuine.

Then dont forget earnings and work life balance are also part of phase 3.

I also need to get through to some members that the amount of time they are making is difficult to be put down to simply not doing the job properley.

They say they need more drop boxes but why not put two smaller bags in a pouch box and cycle back, trust me they will not exactly be a million miles away from a drop box!!!!
