Missing mail concern for heart patient

A PATIENT claimed she missed an appointment to have her heart irregularity checked after a hospital letter went missing in the post.

Beverley Room, of Ayr Close, Spondon, said her mail had been going missing or being mistakenly delivered to neighbours' homes for the past two years, and other residents on the street have also criticised the service.

Royal Mail suspended a postman earlier this month for not delivering letters in Spondon, but Ms Room said the problem is still happening.

She said: "Spondon is now renowned for having problems with mail. Most weeks I get other people's mail. How can they get it so wrong?"

Ms Room, 49, who works at East Midlands Airport, takes medication to control her heart palpitations and said she missed an appointment at the city hospital late last year.

But she only realised when a second letter from the hospital asking her why she had not turned up, was delivered.

Other householders in Ayr Close said they also felt the postal service was not up to scratch.

Stanley Cockram, 71, said: "I have relatives in America and haven't received some of their letters with photographs in."

Another neighbour, who asked not to be named, said packages from eBay had been left on her doorstep for anyone to steal.

She said: "It's been quite bad but in the past couple of weeks the service seems to be getting better. The trouble is you don't know what you're missing."

Ayr Close is the opposite side of Spondon from Dale Road, where post went missing between January and March.

A Royal Mail employee resigned over the affair.

Commenting on the problems regarding mail to Ayr Close, a Royal Mail spokesman said: "We are always concerned to hear of any customer experiencing problems with the service we provide. We would encourage them to contact our customer services team on 08457 740 740 with as much detail as possible so we can investigate."
