Job and finish
Does job and finish still apply to Saturdays? I need to know cos I'm going to rip one off my acting Dom tomorrow. I was due to finish at 1.30 yesterday (Sat) and got back about 1.00. By the time I'd dropped keys in and packets to the locker I left about 1.10. Had the acting nutjob on the phone about 1.20. we had a duty fail yesterday and he asked for volunteers to cover it. Nobody did as we had a heavy day. He wanted to know why I hadn't took any of it because i was finished early. 20 mins FFS!! He was probably p~~~ed off because he had to take some of it as he'd forgot to arrange cover for that duty.

Re: Job and finish
Job & finish doesn't apply to saturdays or any day any more! It finished with the introduction of phase 2 flexability! no one is entitaled to finish early!97gaz wrote:Does job and finish still apply to Saturdays? but that dosen't make it your job to manage the workload in your office. any duties being lapsed outdoors should be agreed in advance (by DOM & unit rep) under phase 3 flexability. your acting nutjob obviously hasn't done this or he wouldn't be asking for voulanteers on the saturday morning.
since you only finished 20 minutes early you could have get out clause.
1. did you take your full meal break? you could always claim you only took 20 minutes during your shift and 20 mins at end of duty.
2. have you worked 30mins OT earlier in the week? under phase 2 flexability (can't remember which enabler) there is provision for 30 min variation of hours once per week.(should be agreed by you and your manager) could try suggesting you don't expect to be paid for 20mins you worked earlier in week. play dumb about it being agreed in advance.
finally even if you finished early does not mean you should do more outdoor work. unless you have a local agreement stating otherwise outdoor delivery spans are 3.5 hours from first to last letter. if you have finished early but have worked 3.5 hours delivery, your manager can't get you to do more delivery work! he/she can get you to do other work in office or even possably delivering packets (depending on what your office has in phase 2 flexability agreed locally).

Re: Job and finish
Could someone explain exactly what job and finish means? I thought it meant you went home as soon as you've finished, no need to go back to DO unless you have packets etc to take back. That's exactly what I do, regardless of day of week.
BTW I have never, in over a year, finished more than about 5 mins early. By that I mean last letter. If you include travel time back or pouching off etc, I think I have finished early ONCE...on a quiet day between Christmas and New Year!

By the looks of it he's a driver, you'll find that the drivers get busted a lot especially if the walkers don't come back to the office.
Me,if i have a good one and by the ODD chance there are managers still in the office,i sneak in an out.
I could work for the SAS me

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

yeh I'm a rural FT. I always take my full break. I do a five day float, three hard and two easyish duties . Yesterday was one of the easy ones. I'm going to tell him tomorow that I'll always come back to the office and work right up to my finish time and that will now include the days when he has to find some other mug to finish my delivery when I'm on the hard ones. He's from our office and was a good mate until he turned to the dark side.

Give NOTHING away to them.
In my Office they wanted 10 % saving bacause numpties were coming back early and dropping bags and packets off and going home, using their cars and coming in 1 hour early, a fact which they conveniently ignore.

Re: Job and finish
job and finish means you go home when you finish your delivery even if you finish over an hour early! and you don't owe any time back to your employer! "it does exactly what it says on the tin"NewPostieUK wrote:Could someone explain exactly what job and finish means? it was introduced nationally with the arrivial of the single daily delivery in 2004 by :cfo and :lfo as a nice long length of rope for us to hang ourselfs with. (leaverage to cut hours & impose flexability)
So in 2007 when RM wanted the workforce to accept flexability :cfo and :lfo toured the media outlets saying "we are simply asking these people to work all the hours they are paid for" and that these "spanish practices are holding back the buisness" all the while they omited to mention that they were introduced under their tenure
ps. you should include travel time to pouch off, 15 mins pouching off time should be included in your duty plan, so your five mins early is really 10 mins late. put in a docket and claim the overtime

but prepare to be harassed, if you finish early you don't have enough work. if you can't complete your duty and cut off theres something wrong with your performance. Goldielocks could never get a job as an RM manager, theres certainly no such thing as just right!

But not if I don't pouch off surely?belle smith wrote: ps. you should include travel time to pouch off, 15 mins pouching off time should be included in your duty plan, so your five mins early is really 10 mins late. put in a docket and claim the overtime
Today for instance, my last letter was one minute before my finish time, no packets left, no P739's, just strolled on home.

Depends, if you didn't have to pouch off then fair enough, but surely you have to pouch off most days. even if you don't have to pouch off you should have recovery time to your office. (if you have to pick up your car) even if you don't have to pick up your car you are entiteld to be recoverd, within reason if you finish last letter and have 5 minute walk back to DO then you should walk back. but if you finish 4 miles away from DO you should be recoverd.NewPostieUK wrote:But not if I don't pouch off surely?belle smith wrote: ps. you should include travel time to pouch off, 15 mins pouching off time should be included in your duty plan, so your five mins early is really 10 mins late. put in a docket and claim the overtime

Re: Job and finish
He's on holiday this week. But he still came in this morning!!
Had a few choice words with him as did a few others who he'd phoned. In the end the Assistant DOM chased him home because he was antagonising too many people.
He'll be back at the front end when we get our new Dom shortly.

Re: Job and finish
The walk I'm doing at the minute is OK for packets, maybe a couple of times a week I don't even have anything to be signed. An average week I'll go straight home 3 days, and back to the DO twice (with packets), there's no pouching off. The DO is about a 15 min walk from last letter, so I always account for that, and 15 mins to sort packets out, when filling in my overtime sheet.belle smith wrote:Depends, if you didn't have to pouch off then fair enough, but surely you have to pouch off most days. even if you don't have to pouch off you should have recovery time to your office.
