Every rural frame now also has 1/3 of a town walk on it as well.
The staff who used to prep ( and deliver ) the town walks are now on IPS from 630 ( official start time ) to about 8:00.
I,m a reserve and most of the time i cover on rural walks when they on annual leave / sick.
This week however, was down for a town walk, got in work @630, checked which rural frames now contained the town walk i would be delivering ( it was divided between 3 rural walks, 2 of which were next to each other, the other 1 was on other side of office ).... Ok so i know where to find my mail, so jump on the IPS with the rest of the town walkers.... obviously the sorting frame has changed to reflect the bits of town walks going on rurals, so its an hour and half of constantly looking up to see which bit gos where etc..
OK IPS over, now comes the fun bit..... each of the 3 rurals now has to do a bag drop for me, unfortunately, the town walk segments on the rural frame, do not properly correspond to how i need to bag, so spend time scurrying round between the 3 frames getting my bag drops ready
Eventually get that sorted, rurals have left office, then a few bits and pieces turn up that needed to go in the bags that have left.. no alternative but to put them all in the bag that i take first and feed em in on way round.
Got out at 9 am - ish, and as its a 35 hr walk, and i am FT, cant really complain, as i finish earlier than i would on a rural.... but the messing around getting bagged up etc is a nightmare, and this is a quietish Monday...
When they eventually get "bag-carriers" on 20 hr contracts, it could be a mare for them, as the rurals will then have to bag-up the town walks as well, and if they are still out of synch with the frames/bagging up.... you can imagine.....
Day off tomorrow - Thank God
