Postman promises payback

A local island postman said his next encounter with a deer that knocked him off his bike will not bode well for the deer

Postman Peder Jeppesen was completing his delivery route on the tiny island of Lyø, south of Funen, when two deer knocked him off his bicycle.

Fyns Amts Avis newspaper reports that the postman was cycling quite fast down a hill when the animals suddenly jumped out in front of him.

The next thing I remember was lying on the ground,’ said Jeppesen, who was left injured and bleeding from the collision.

Despite his broken collarbone, he made it to a neighbouring house and delivered the last of the mail, before being given a lift home.

None of the 130 residents on the six kilometre square island have seen the offending animals since the incident, although one shouldn’t be too hard to spot – judging by the amount of hide left behind in the handlebars of the bike.
