I believe living on the Dole is no fun.
:nana Take redundancy if you get it, then re-apply for a part time job.Believe me.all fullt ime jobs will go,and the contract you have now will be whittled away to nothing. And you will have nothing to show for it.

Would they let you do that ?

I would be interested to know that.

One postie who took VR and used it to pay off his Debt, couldn't find a job, ended up living in a YMCA ( dunno how) came round to the Sorting Office one day asking for his Old Job back was told he cannot reapply until something like 2 years or so has passed.

It's the seniority that make it harder for the newbies because they think they are so hard done by, and anything said or proposed by anyone in a suit is a terrible idea or it just will not work. Perhaps your right citizen, the newbies will resign then a new wave will come in and you can tell them how many years you have done blah blah blah and you do not need to lift a finger for anyone because you need to get back the sorting office by 12 'o' clock (it's also funny how they give the 40hr people the shortest or easiest rounds too and chuck the part timers on the longer rounds).

Am i bothered or disheartened by this? no. I have done far worse jobs than this and if they want to get rid of me they will have to VR me. I joined this forum hoping to read good stuff, i mean we all know how bad things are but all i see is moan moan moan here.
All units run different to others, however the outcome is normally the same. Unfortunately and not supprisingly Royal Mail have not thought this through, once the van sharing thing runs out and work is being brought back to the units in it droves, then they will realise what complete plonkers they have been.
I have not suggested that I am 100% behind the CR's, I have though and stand by my statement that once this new program is rolled out and the VR's have been taken and the resigns have taken place the surplus employees would be given CR, this unfortunately will mean the newbies, hence the :wave so long statement.
I feel I have not been detrimental just stating my opinion. Believe me when I say "hope you get a job soon". However I hope I'm wrong and all keep there jobs, one can only hope.
This is a major change within the business of which I have never seen, in my many moons of employement and believe me when I say I have seen many strokes done by management but nothing as ruthless as this.

Perfect thread for understanding management tactics . High staff turnover inevitably has a negative impact on finances and efficiency. However both these factors are of no consequence if you ;A fiddle the figures, or; B ,can use bad results to support your long term strategy.
Tell you what high staff turnover does do, surprise surprise, weakens CWU membership :hmmmm

compulsary redundancy.
Managers are making a determined effort to get rid of FT permanent contracts and replace us with PT rolling contracts.

To date, there yet to be one VR in my office. They wanted staff to take Buy Down, no one took up the offer.
Yet management want to take out between 700 & 900 hours. Who can understand the mind of so called managerment?
