Re: turning the screw
What you must rember in RM when a Manager is doing a Disciplinary,a higher manager will have looked at the case and decided the punishment in advance regardless of facts or what is said in the interveiw.
So the interveiwing Manager has 2 choices, does he follow his /her bosses instructions regardless or do they hear the merits of the case and then decide what action if any will be taken
.Either way the Manager walks a tightrope. He follows his Managers instruction then all well and good for his management future untill it ends up in court and could well be thrown to the Wolves by RM .If the Manger does the job properley lisens to the person and the facts and then makes a decision, then he could be in touble with his Manager for not making the right decision.
1 recent Example I know personaly ,a very expirenced line manager,a fair guy,kew his stuff, and had kept the office running through a very difficult period and whilst Domis away.
Anyway a long serving postie messes up ,not on purpose The area MANAGER decides thIS postie should be sacked in advance, the line Manager hears the case, gives the guy a good telling off and a warning I think.
The area Manager not HAPPY WITH THIS OUTCOME,so the Line Manager is moved out the office straight the way to another office, threatened with the sack himself, and now
proably a marked man for daring to do a Disciplinary case properley.
Know of another case the dom wanted a sclap, did not matter whose, tried doing a postie who was folling his line managers instructions, result Dom could not get postie so got Manager instead, and Manager got busted down to postie.

Re: turning the screw
Our gaffer is a decent enough bloke but he does have that policeman type attitude that us normal folk don't have.He could never turn a blind eye to anything.
But recently he's been getting the scythe out and everyone is kicking off.
I know for sure though he is under massive pressure from his manager. He is scared stiff of been demoted or sacked(dunno what they do to them). But as we never see his manager he has to take all our wrath.
I'm sure they are trying to make people leave and replace them with 20 hour contacts.
RM at the moment is just an absolute discrace

Any managers on here want to speak up?Put the record straight?Dish the dirt?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: turning the screw
how can they get away with this kind of behaviour? in all honesty, i used to love going to work(i know some of u did too, even if you are scared to admit it) but its getting to the point now where going to work is a bit of a downer and i adopt an "i dont care" attittude, where as before id be prepared to do my round with a smile, not a care in the world, go the extra mile. now im looking to cut off, and hurt the managers in any way i can coz they just dont respect any of us.
its upsetting when u see colleagues being bullied and worn down, and infuriating when you try and help but are turned on aswel. something needs to be done, but at this turbulent time, no one is there to help and things r getting worse
also, do these managers think that after more cuts that thier jobs will be safe? when it comes to the crunch and its time to make even more savings, they will be next. do u think they think that?

Re: turning the screw
people become strange when they become managers and forget what they were once. i been like that and its not nice dreading going to work because of atmosphere and it does get ppl down. if a workforce is doing their work ok wherever they are, management should not have anything to go on about. probably they are worried that if a workforce isnt working then the first person who would get it is the manager, but they get around it by sacking or something and getting rid of a problem instead of trying to do something about it. and then the process repeats until something else happens then someone else will get it. stuck in a rut.
just do what you do what you can. im sure everyone else feels the same

Re: turning the screw
Thats my attitude now.. Go in on time have your meal reliefs. AND GO HOME ON TIME!! As long as you put in a good days graffed and can account for every hour you have been in.. Then you have nothing to worry about... If your happy to be out on delivery an hour more on O.T thats your choice! as long as you get paid for it!! But in our office the mail pile is still getting ever bigger.. What ever happened to wilfull delay??????just do what you do what you can. im sure everyone else feels the same

Re: turning the screw
Bonuses now are hard too come by for management in the beginning it was easy 5% year on year savings god :lfo said and the lord was hailed as the new saviour of royalmail!. Now it is impossible too make 5% savings ESP year on year and the managers above bully the junior managers most new one's are acting and are postmen/women who think they can make a difference but they can only do as they are told or get back on the walks.
