An investigation is underway following claims mail has been stolen from Workington’s postal delivery office.
Royal Mail today confirmed an inquiry had been launched into a complaint of theft at its base on Derwent Drive.
It is understood the probe centres on allegations made about a member of staff.
But the details of anybody involved in the investigation have not been released.
Royal Mail has said it will not discuss individual staff matters or confirm the scale of any alleged theft or other details about the allegations.
But a spokeswoman told the News & Star: “There is an investigation underway following a complaint of theft of mail.
“We don’t discuss individual personnel issues.”
No charges have yet been brought in connection with the inquiry and the case has not reached court.
The investigation does not involve the police but is being carried out by Royal Mail’s own investigators.
They have the power to conduct their own probes into allegations such as theft and decisions are then taken on a possible prosecution.
Royal Mail has asked anyone with concerns about missing mail to contact its customer services helpline on 0845 7747747.

Changed title for appearance sakes and pasted news story in as well.
However, it is an alleged theft and an ongoing investigation so to me it seems a bit of a non-story - interesting none the less so thanks for posting the link.
