Things are getting tough in NZ
we are facing what the management are calling a "rebalance" which is basically a cutup every day except Saturday. They blame the so called "world recession" which I think is a myth anyway. So shortly we'll be out there longer for the same money!!! Apparently we might get a recast later in the year when we'll probably lose a run or two, pretty sad. How are things in Blighty?? Any new gossip?? Any jobs going for a really experienced postie from NZ? Hope everyone is happy and healthy, cheers

Poor you---if you have the time, read through all the posts, and you will get your answer. I imagine in ten years from now, the Postie will be a distant dream!Sugarpie wrote:we are facing what the management are calling a "rebalance" which is basically a cutup every day except Saturday. Sounds exactly like what we are going through at the moment just with different terms:Sugarpie wrote:we are facing what the management are calling a "rebalance" which is basically a cutup every day except Saturday. Rebalance = Geo-route and Pegasus in the UK - walks are lengthened sorry made more equal.
Cut up = Longs and shorts and later starts in the UK.
Recast = Not sure sounds something like a repick where posties choose their duties based on seniority.
In the UK we are running a political campaign as the Government want to "Part Privatise" Royal Mail - but they call it "Forming a Strategic Partnership", with our biggest competitor in the UK. To form a strategic partnership the incoming business will buy a significant minority share of the business, will have seats on the board and will bring in its own management team - sounds like part privatisation to me.

That's a really good idea - Maybe the CWU NZ and the CWU UK could organise a job swap, house swap and .................. no, no I'd probably leave the wife at home - maybe I could put her in kennels for a few months.k66yla wrote:I wonder if RM & NZ Post do a job swap, would'nt mind 6 months in NZ

Re: Things are getting tough in NZ
Ha ha yeah it seems to be a worldwide thing, in probably every industry I suspect. A recast basically means resizing all the runs according to various criteria - distance, number of delivery points, circulars, other stuff too probably. And of course mail volumes which we are reliably informed by management are dropping!! Well I've noticed that when it's light it's lighter than it used to be and when it's heavy it's slighty heavier. So overall volumes might be dropping but the workload doesn't seem to be. Basically we're paid(rostered) for 37.4 hours a week over 6 days but we're only averaging something like 31 so the management thinks they're getting short changed or something. Funny because they actually advertise the job with things like "get home early and have the rest of the day to yourself" so they are well aware that it is part of the job. I don't seem to see the managers working more hours because hey, what do they do all day anyway???? OK well anyway I fancy 6 months in the UK even if it is working!! I love it over there, call me nuts or whatever but every time I've been there has been an exciting adventure. My wife and I even had our honeymoon there, it was cool!! She was born in London so there you go. So what else is happening in the land of fish and chips?? Hmmmmmmm fish and chips......

Things aren't looking too good.
It seems that the UK is probably going to have the deepest recession
of anywhere in the world.
But the fish and chips are still good.
