industrial action: royal mail update

Industrial action: an update from Royal Mail
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As of Wednesday 20th June, midday, we can advise that the situation remains uncertain, but no dates for strike action have been announced by the Communications Workers Union.

Discussions between Royal Mail and the CWU are taking place today under the auspices of ACAS.

We believe the dispute is not about pay, but about the Union's belief that the loans from Government should not have to be paid back and that competition should be stopped, both of which are impossible.

We remain hopeful that our people fully understand the damage that any industrial action will have on our customers and therefore our business and our future.

We want to avoid any unnecessary disruption to the service we provide to our customers, and we continue to do all we can to persuade our people not to strike.

The CWU must give at least seven days’ notice of strike action. We have developed contingency plans which we will put in place in the event of any action and will do everything possible to minimise the impact on our customers should a strike happen.

ok who's responsible for that b*****t?

thats a new one on me, loans? not about pay? stop competition?

quite right - happy to have Her Majesty's face on our stamps but even happier to stamp on AC's face.

At least the union had enough decency to remain silent until the ACAS talks failed.

Royal Mail haven't even managed that

My Managers favourite quote is " I am only doing what I am being paid for and " Royal Mail are my employees so that is the line I follow"

Well I say, yep the first is true and as for the second, so what you do not have to agree just because they employ you. :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad

Not too surprising. It's much the same mentality. Every order coming down from on high must be absolute truth. Why? Because their betters have told them so. Challenge nothing, accept everything. So they blindly follow Leighton, Crozier or whoever the latest boss is. The clowns we've got in our office are beyond conversing about anything which does not concern work. Since 1980, we've had a succession of dense sods who seemingly have no interest in music, books, films and not even much when it comes to the great British passion for sport. A few months ago, we had a lad in our office 'shadowing' one of the line-managers. He was a reader and you could have a good debate about the issues of the day. I doubt he will last long in management. There must be some managers who aren't as thick as a brick, but they seem to bypass our office. I suspect Royal Mail don't really see much potential in managers with initiative and who question things too closely, but such is the way in dictatorships, which is what we are, especially with that pair of parasites in charge.

My DUM is Leightons biggest fan. He came out with a cracker week. He said 'the unions are going to ruin this business'. The dick head don't like unions. He isn't even a member of the managers union. I'll remind him of what the unions negotiate when i'm back off leave. He thinks Leighton gives out the pay rises to managers personally. :lfo

one of the biggest problems is that managers dont have the bottle to say to the fools at the top we cant cut anymore were down to the bare bones now.
if the local managers told them the truth about whats happening in the real world then maybe we they would see some sense but i doubt it.

Again you see, that would require initative and that is a commodity in very short supply amongst Royal Mail managers
