One of the boys in our office got his pouch bag searched the other morning because a member of the public was in looking for his parcel but could not get it.The postie p/t starts 9.00am brought it back in the next morning( not the only one doing this) when manager asked if he took it home with him he foolishly said yes. He now has a fact finding meeting on wed with manager who knows that he is not the only one doing this but never stopped it and its been raised with him a few times at wtl and alike but i know he will quote RM policy on this so whats the chances for this postie

The rep or the postie should get witnesses to this to show that there is a pattern of the manager despite being informed turning a blind eye to policy breaches. If the fact finding interview does not find in his favour and he is disciplined in any way then an ET would or rather should find in his favour. In fact if you were a witness to at least 1 of these WTLs then write out a statement to that effect and pass it to the rep. The more of your colleagues who do this the better.

Yes he did wrong by taking it home but if he can prove that the manager had been alerted to an ongoing incorrect practice and it was not subsequently addressed by the manager this will weaken the case for disciplinary action to be appropriate.

In my honest opinion though if you know Royal Mail policy then stick to it even if the manager briefs you on an un-official way of doing it, that way you can't be caught out. In my DO we have been told we can doorstep lightbulbs - I don't as we are not allowed to do it for other packets and anyway it advertises the fact that the property is empty and is therefore a security risk for the householder.

my office aswell, we also had a guy check peoples bags n stuff when they came in this morning. it says on the light bulbs usually "leave in a safe place" so thats what i do, but not ott. just leave it in a place visible to the adressee but hidden to the public seeing eye, so no need to write loads of 739's

i had to bring mail home today as it was so heavy i was out till nearly 3 oclock when supposed to finish at 1, i had several items which needed to go back to the office ie customer not at address and slip left, on ringing the packet driver to collect these he told me was home and finished his duty, after ringing the office for half an hr i finally got an answer and their was no managers present so the locker guy just said bring it in tomorrow, with these items being slipped its a possibility they might arrive to collect their parcels before i get to the office as i start at 9am, i cannot believe - well actually i can, the shambles running of the office and particular my round, no pouch boxes bags regularly over 16kg and no way to return items to the office if i finish after 1, pathetic.

It's not your problem if RM don't provide pouch boxes for you to use and don't take out overweight bags if you get injured they will shrug their shoulders and say not the managers fault you shouldn't have taken out overweight bags. Never never take any post home with you again that is the managers problem to sort out if stuff needs to get taken back to the office not yours they are paid to manage although sometimes I wonder what they could manage some of them In future ask the manager before you go out what are you supposed to do with any mail/packets that need to be returned to the office and don't let them off with the blank look that they all seem well trained in giving out these days. IB will come down you and they can and will use it as an excuse to get rid of you.....you have been warned.

post office was over a mile away, and after working tilll nearly 3 i didnt fancy the extra walk - the local post office was shut at half day see,
to book o/time i just fill in form the next day and write why it took so long (bad management) - no one other than van drivers return to the office so its basically a job and finish still. the packet driver had finished for the day.

I also got trained if I had left over items from P739's and they would fit in a mail box we could put them into that as long as they are endorsed.
