how much i love my day off now

Post by uprising95 »

Do yopu ?????

im chilling out so i thought id share my thoughts while im on here :D

when i 1st started ( 18 month ago ) i never wanted to have my day off and work it

but now i actually love it and look forward to it.
all though i never get a long weekend :(

the changes that have been made to the job makes it so hard and tough
most the week im always tired comes to the weekend im lifeless ( 23 as well ) :chuckle
i must admit i do run and work to get done

the rounds are way to big IMO with this van share theirs far far to much walking involved and that's whats doing it
i did 6 days of it last week 1st letter delivery at 9.45am and finishing at around 3pm.
this is now...what will xmas be like :nervous :nervous

just having the 2 days off Sunday and Monday ive felt a difference in my self
the pain has started to kick in
in the lower back and in the legs.
pulling muscles i didn't no i had lol.

i hope the rounds stay as they are if they get any bigger in the near future i can see my self dropping dead in someones garden

arr well back to work tomorrow for it all again :Very Happy

Hope you booked overtime for that 3pm finish, 4hours 15 is a long walk, I had to do one last year for a week and hated it, some people pick the long waalks so they can book overtime. Me give me the shortest walk possible so I can get home :nana

yeh im with you, ive been here for almost 4 years now and its only now i truley value my restday. i, like you, used to work my day off, do lots of docket and work hard for a nice bit of bunce at the end of the week. now that theres nearly no docket, i cant be arsed and relish having a late night and a lie in, follwed by a nice day with my family.
it wasnt to bad when we used to start at 5 and finish early, now its a joke.

very true

its very physical isnt it
and takes alot of energy to complete the rounds in a day

im glad ive had both start early go home early
to now start early go home late what a massive difference there is.
some days im shattered before i even go out ( 6am start till 9.30am out the office ) all the sorting collecting mail up & down stairs etc .
all though flats have been coming walk sorted magazines etc which is good rather than manual sort :Very Happy

i need to stop thinking
it could get depressing lol

mate, thats used to be my philosophy. i worked my day off, do docket, i used to do late turns which meant i didnt finish til 7pm some nights (14 hrs of work) but now, theres nothing. where there used to be o.t. the clipboard would come round and youd put ur name down claim your 4 hrs/8 hrs and get on with it, NOW if theres overtime, they get on the phone, call in a hour contract guy, and pay him how long it takes to do the job. even tho, the union and rm agreed that there would always be a potential to earn more money thru overtime.

so now, i take my day off, make sure i get a long weekend every 6 weeks and enjoy being with my family. the managers have done themselves no favours, the staff have turned against the managers bigtime now. no one will do anything for them.

I used to do loads of overtime too. But that was when we got paid x1.25 for the first 6 hours,
x1.5 for the second six hours, and x2 for any weekday hours over the first 12 and at weekends.
We also used to get 10 minutes break for every hour worked, and Night Duty Allowance for every
hour after 7pm.
There's very little OT now, and it doesn't seem worth the hassle, unless I desperately need it for
an unexpected bill or emergency.
I can understand that some people do need to do it though.

I don't do 1/2 walk overtime anymore due to finishing too late and no time for open university studying.

I do floating week off work occasionally.

"9.45am to 3pm" 5 HOUR 15 MINS DELIVERY SPAN !!!   you surely can't have an agreement on this? If you don't have a seperate local agreement on longer delivery spans then the limit is 3.5 hours for town walks if you have delivered on the street for 3.5 hours return to your office and make yourself available for indoor work your manager will get all the toys out his pram, but can't do a thing because he shouldn't being giveing yous this level of outdoor work!!!! :no no

Remember new retierment age is 65, could you do this to 65 without, "dropping dead in someones garden???"
