What happens to the SAWN Mail at the DOs?
I know that you don't have to take out MS on a Saturday. But the SAWN is collected, sorted, and sent out by the RDCs over the weekend. Does it just wait until the Monday, or are there special arrangements for it?

Re: SAWN
That'll be Mailsort 3 which is essentially 3rd Class mail. Mailsort 1 & 2 are essentially 1st & 2nd Class and should be taken for delivery according to its delivery schedule. If the 2nd Class, (Mailsort 2), delivery due date is Saturday then you must deliver it on that Saturday.andy2007 wrote:I know that you don't have to take out MS on a Saturday.

Or perhaps I am cynical.

Re: SAWN
I always done that, cos Saturdays were relatively light, and it made for an easy Monday...now it doesn't matter, cos Saturday's just another heavy day, and Mondays aren't much better with the MS that was held back by the MC / screwscustard wrote:the other two would be delivered as normal in our office in that caseTrueBlueTerrier wrote:only MS3 comes with an M on it - 1st an 2nd class MS just have a 1st or 2nd PPI.custard wrote:in our office if its got an M its M for monday

I don't suppose your mouth bleeds every 28 days, does it?

Re: SAWN
SAWN is Streamline Access Weekend Network.
It's bulk mail that is collected from business customers at weekends, and is NOT (usually) Mailsort 3 stuff, it's proper 1st and 2nd Class mail, what you old-timers used to call 'rebate'. Many customers clamoured for bulk mail to also be picked up on Saturdays, not just Monday-Friday, and RM gave in a few years ago to their demands.
As most of it is not trunked around the country til Saturday afternoon or Sunday, I'd imagine it doesn't go out from the mail centres until Monday morning. Perhaps this is the reason Tuesday is now a heavy day on deliveries ??

I thought it was something to do with locking people in a room with lots of booby traps and deciding on who survived because of their actions.
