turning the screw

Post by RTI »

In my d.o. (and some of yours from what ive been reading) it seems that the management are taking a more "no nonsence" approach to things. they are stepping up the bullying tactics and backing people into corners. is this coincidence or is thier an order from higher up the pecking order? the mamnagers are taking more libertys with people and winding them up even more than usual. in my office, things are really bubbling up and i feel that things are going to boil over soon.

what do you all think?

I agree grantyboy, we had a vote for park and loop about 2 - 3 weks ago it was yes vote eventually, and the resign is now nearly finished the 4 hr delivery starts 2 weeks tomorrow, that is bullying tactics for you, DIM said if we didn't vote yes we were going ti force in 7 weeks with legal proceedings. Now no drivers 2 to a van and we do 3 and 1/2 hour walk do packets, specials also get to take the van home. Pish eh ! ! ! :Sick

Same here, Managers that turned a blind eye to little things are now using the conduct code to get rid of staff. Problem is, newer staff that never knew they were doing anything wrong are losing their jobs just to add more gold stars for the Managers (sic). They are backing up each other's allegations and looking after just themselves.

I personally know of 3 staff that have been sacked for pathetic reasons in the last few weeks.

SACK THE MANAGERS!

Well we have just started our new geo route duties and from the very first day off new changes we are being constantly told we are not allowed to sing, chant, take tea or coffee to our frames not even allowed to talk unless its work related.. toilet breaks to be timed if you go to many times.. atmosphere is more like a nazi concentration camp.. literatly!! I honestly never ever thought I would ever see this sort of treatment in this country... We do have about 15 to 20 managers in from local areas... So may be its a bit of a safety in numbers thing!! :nervous

if somebody was dismissed from doing something that they didn't know...

either a rule book has not been issued, one had been issued and not not read, or been read and some bits in it skipped as we all know how tiresome they are. depending on what the cirumstance was, the least should have been done is politely point it out.

a manager should be someone with experience promoted from within. nothing worse than an unhappy ship
and here comes avi cohen! oh i say! at the same end, he's got one back!!

Just hold tight,do you seriously think these numnuts are going to be able to carry on with their piss taking in the job,the doing f**k all and clearing off early to either go home or go somewhere else to do docket malarkey.
Yes they are acting like twats towards us,but their time will come. :Very Happy

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Be careful not to loose your temper too. Over the last 6 Months, we've had two people conducted for having heated arguments. One got a 2 year serious (later reduced to 1 year on appeal). The other is still going through the Conduct procedure. be careful out there!

Like you said IPS: They seem to be looking for excuses at the moment. :nervous

isnt it amazing that we are all experiencing this harsh treatment at the moment, my office is like so many of yours. from the no talking/singing/eating at frames to the sacked for things you didnt know about. in the last year, we have had 8 people sacked (all reinstated thru appeal) we have weekley "suprise" bag checks and searches, and were taunted and pressured by linos. But again like somneone else said previously, it winds them up even more if you keep calm and do things properly. cut off if you need to, teach em a cheeky lesson.

and apparantley, theres a rumer doing the rounds that theres a managers league, the more of a bastard you are (more sackings, jobs cut etc) the higher up the league you go.

perhaps then you should start a posties league then where you move up the league by getting them sacked.

actually just thought you could get points for talking nicely about them to their managers and see how long it takes for them to get moved out.
obviously if you're nice about them to their boss then the boss will think they must be incompetent.
Confused... You won't be, after the next episode of. SOAP

Incompetent seems to be the only value required to gain promotion within RM.

The decent managers seem to be left as lineo's as their face does not fit or worse moved sideways to the RM equivalent of Siberia. If they are competent but unwilling to play the game they are forced out.

If they are incompetent but hit the targets no matter how they do it, and they implement all directives without question they are eventually promoted.

As some one said some time ago in Royal Mail you are promoted to your level of incompetency and TBH from the coal face it does seem that way some times.

i cant think of any industry that allows management to conduct themselves in this way. if people were reinstated through appeal, why arent managers being reprimanded or whatever, because it is time consuming, costs money and time, all because a manager mucked up in the first place, and these management mistakes are always picked up in appeals when they should not have got to that stage in the first place.

sounds pathetic and childish if managers have got a league table.. sounds well like a jobs for the boys culture. quicker they get shot of, the better.. it would be very interesting just exactly how many managers are actually promoted from within.

yeh undercover tv would be a great way to deal with it. and it won't be a whistleblowing exercise. expose the ferkas. nobody at work to be abused, and when managers are doing the abusing, root them out.

if the unions are not doing anything or cannot do anything, send letters to local newspapers, tv companies, local news, local radio stations. maybe local MP (if they can be arced to read).. raise public awareness.

are there water dispensers available? when there's a drinks ban in force, only three legitimate reasons can be used in mitigation. one is the obvious, spillage over mail. not very pleasant where someone spills a mug of tea over a letter or ribena/coke over a package. blackcurrant's a bugga to get off lol.
secondly, potential damage to machinery. cans getting caught in a conveyor. plastic bottles can scrunch up and get jammed someone. or water spilling over electronic parts and machinery.
thirdly, health and safety. no harm in replenishing body moisture. but the potential hazards are there. if a drink was knocked over by accident and that person did not know it had been spilt, and someone else just happens to be rushing behind and slips on the spillage resulting in injury. or foolhardy worker messing about flicking water and causing an annoyance. glass breakage and splinters.

common sense should prevail. the logical thing to do, is to have a drinks exclusion zone around tables and walking areas etc to eliminate the chances of an incident occuring, and set aside a drinking area. im sure a little table can be set aside in easy reach for workers to store their drinks so it it won't get in anyone's way while carrying. im sure that it is common sense to drink from a cup or a bottle a metre away or even two just to be on the safe side.
